The User Name Story.

After an interesting conversation with ChuckAmazuk at nXm3, I started to get curious about the story behind the creation of a user name.

His, for example, is his Mongolian warrior name (which is probably the coolest thing I've ever heard).

Mine came from a friend realizing that my lean stature makes me "look like Jack Skellington...on STILTS." Thus, Jack Stilts was born.

So post up! How did your user name come to be? Some are obvious, but others...ahem...looking at you, AzhiAZiaM!

Macland.

My name has meaning in two parts.

First I went on a camping trip in 2003 with my dad and some employees/Co workers of his in Creede, CO. These guys called my dad Macland and started calling me little Macland over the week.

Second, the original usage if the name Macland is from McLintock where the Indian, Running Buffalo, yells to the duke "whoa Macland, where the whiskey?!"

Essentially my name is after my dad and John Wayne. And my last name starts with McC so Mac is fitting.

Mine came from a Misfits song, not the Ed Roth cartoon character. Although, I Love rat rods, the character, and art of Ed Roth.

I've had the username way before I had an Xterra.

Well, it all started in kindergarten...they would take me out of the regular class, and teach me other languages, higher math, make me write book reports, etc...and then bring me back. I found out later that if the teachers didn't see me, they'd ask "Where's the genius"...which was shortened to TG, as in, "where's TG?"

The other kids heard, and they started calling me TG...and one day someone called me TJ instead, and, it just stuck, and I was TJ from Kindergarten to 2nd grade, then they skipped me to 4th grade, and then we moved...and when I was in the new school, I just went by by regular/non-nickname.

Later on, in the '90's after Al Gore invented the internet...I had a Jeep TJ to replace the YJ, and, there was an online forum for Jeeps just starting...and I needed something they called "A Screen Name", and, it occurred to me that I had a Jeep TJ, and, it had actually been my nickname way back...so I entered it, it, as there were only six forum members at that point...a 2 charactor screen name was OK, and it wasn't already taken....and, online, for many years, I went by TJ.

Then, they made it so screen names had to be longer, because there were now MORE THAN 6 people on line, so, it got lengthened to Teej, Teejay, and so forth as needed. Most variations were already taken on ClubX, so I ended up with TJTJ (Sort of "Pizza Pizza"-ish).

My OLD friends I kept in contact with passed the TJ nickname on to newer friends, so, now a days, I might called TJ, Teejer, Teej (The j morphed to a soft g sound...), etc.

Some friends call me any variation of my real name or any of the variations on TJ, interchangeably...so its sort of fluid.

:D

My user name is my actual nickname and it is a play on the word salsa.
I am a drummer and I have played in many rock bands over the years. A long time ago my band had a song that had Latin/ salsa undertones. The guys asked me to play a cool salsa drum intro and they were so impressed the guitar player said, "Damn, we should call you salsa!" However, he mangled the word salsa and it came out "slasa". The name stuck stuck and I have been Slasa or Slas ever since.

Well if you know me i grew up in the 805, surfing, long boarding, being a beach bum smoking ganja. I hung out with a ton of people from here and i spotted a sticker that said azhiaziam on my buddies surf board, so obviously i asked. After the explanation of what it is i ended up adopting the name for just about everything. Forums, gaming user names, truck names etc. Since ive had my first truck ive always rocked azhiaziam stickers largely. To tell you azhiaziam is not a drug its a local surf shop that started in slo and now has a frontal shop in morro bay. Ill always rock it and continue to support mike jones over there, every year i buy every new shirt, sweater they come out with maybe one day if he ever sells it ill buy it. Very doubtful he will though.
And its as*hi*as*i*am

Airmapper

First Fill-Up (of many)
Mine came about when I needed a username for Geocaching, I hate making up names anyway, and I looked at my GPS unit, an AIRMAP 500 at the time, and just filled it out as a proper sounding web name, Airmapper.

Most people think I'm an aerial cartographer or something, I wish, but not so much. It is accurate because an AIRMAP is an aviation unit, and I do have it because I flew planes. I had a student license and have soloed in 2 seat Cessna's, including long distance solo's and solo in Class C airspace (Basically airports with radar and air traffic control.) I've even flown in and out of Nashville Int. a few times, once at night (that was pretty cool, especially with a Boeing 737 shaking the ground behind me as I pulled off the runway.)

I don't fly anymore but that's only because it's a hobby for the "rich", not the "doing alright." If I do good building Bronco's, maybe I'll be sharp enough to build my own aircraft. I need to finish my private pilot license, but keep telling myself before I do to establish a reason I'd need to frequently travel more than 500 miles at a stretch. I just need to do it for the sake of doing it, but I'm cheap.

Far as the Mapping goes, I played with it as a hobby and got where I had a reasonably good ability to mess with GIS data, and was proficient with GPS tech. I've done my own surveying for minor projects like an easement, not requiring a licensed surveyor, and once worked with a actual land surveyor for a few sites.

So I keep the name, it still fits, I'm interested in all that stuff.

There's a hospital in Chattanooga that has a fleet of seriously BA helicopters that go by the name Lifeforce. I've always loved helicopters and enjoy hearing Lifeforce make low passes over the mountain where I live. When I was first thinking of a username for another Xterra forum before the days of XN, Lifeforce 1 made a very low, very fast pass right over my house and rattled my windows. I typed in Xterraforce and that's been me ever since for anything Xterra related.

I had always used the user name jfitzw because that plus some random numbers was what aol gave me back in the 90s. At some point in college I got into pc gaming and people kept telling me my user name sucked. I had recently written a short story for one of my english classes called the great intender and liked the name. This was around the late 90s when spelling things wrong was cool so it was th3gr8ntnder then shortened to gr8ntender and eventually intender. I occasionally find a forum where the name is used and I will go by ntender

Prime is the grown up evolution of a username that I used back in the stealing AOL days.

Way back in the 14.4kbps modem days, we all got 100 free hours of AOL in the mail. As a result of being a kid, I didn't have any money to PAY for Internet, so every time my trial ran out, I'd cancel it and start a new one. Subsequently, every one had to have a different screen name. After varying iterations of garbage names I came up w/ Prime Lord. No. I'm not egocentric or anything. Heh. Over the years I found that no one really used that on websites for login info. So it got used everywhere. And is still used on some forums and websites. StangNet is a good example of that.

As I got older and ever so slightly more humble (just a little) I dropped the Lord portion and just kept Prime. And I liked it better. I like short 1 syllable names.

Mine is a misspelling of Muad'dib from the Dune series of books.

I've been a fan of the original (House Lynch) version as far back as I can remember. Didn't understand it much as a 6 year old, but like it. Later, when I finally read the books, I understood how far the movie deviated. I've used the name since my BBS days (that brings back memories), and have kept it as much as I could. Only place I haven't used it is on Minecraft, and then I didn't think about adding numbers to the end of it.

My first "good" AOL username was FakePlasticTWong (actually not for the song, but I saw someone else name himself for the song and thought it was neat so I borrowed the idea. Incidentally I became a Radiohead fan afterward). For applications where I didn't want to put my name out there, I genericized it a bit.

Mine is pretty easy. Back in the mid 80's I lived in Cali and I bought my first Hearse (an awesome 1964), and everywhere I went, people would say it was "Creepy" that I would drive such a thing. It didn't help that I always dressed the part with the dark makeup and the long black tuxedo tails jacket, (well, it was the 80's after all, lol). So fast forward to early 90's when i bought my '65 (the one in my sig). New state but same result, so I decided to put "Creepy" on the license plate (and I drive it about 1/2" off the ground and drag the body everywhere), and so the "Creepy Cruiser" was born. I've always been a crazy Halloween (the holiday) freak, and people have been calling me "Creepy" for almost 40 years, so I just went with it.

After a lot of creative thinking and deliberation... I came up with my username.

In all honestly, I would have to credit my parents and family line for my username.

For those who don't know... caseycamby = Casey Camby (my name)

Cool story, right? Haha. Cool thread idea!

Okay, so uh where do I start? Let's see... Thinking back on it I joined my first forum when I had my jeep tj. I wasn't that into the online part because I was a 16 year old madly in love with my first vehicle being my dream car at the time a late 90s TJ (98 to be specific). Honestly don't even remember my username over there. But that's beside the fact. Okay so I got my xterra after selling that lemon of a wrangler and all my friends would call my xterra a "jeep thing" still get it to this day. Or I would get "exterra" or a new one "trailblazer". So I just decided to save myself the stress an start telling everyone to call it my X because at the time being 16-17ish I didn't have a Ex at the time. Yes ex-girlfriend I know shocking right. 17 an I hadn't had a ex girlfriend yet?!? This way it would never be confusing wether we were referring to a truck or a "ex gf". So it kinda stuck everyone started saying Aaron's X which was a whole lot better than jeep thing, trail blazer, land cruiser, or honda accord. Okay maybe not honda accord. But any way it stuck I liked it an it became my username.

But now it gets confusing because I do have a X an a Ex an you'll know real quick which one I'm assuming you're talking about. One is dependable, an well the other makes me...I sat here trying to finish the sentence but there's too many ugly things to say so I won't lol.

You know, this is the first I have ever seen any one ask this on any forum.

So mine came from a camping trip. My Last name is Morgan, and I am an absolute die hard fisher. If given a fising pole and a mud puddle, I will catch something. Every year me and my buddies from highschool meet up around the 4th of July. All 8 of us that meet up are all in different states now, have different careers, some are married, some have kids but we are from a small town in Oklahoma so we meet there, usually on some farm land one of us used to work, and we leave the families behind and just camp out for 2 days. We drink an insane amount of alchohol, catch and release many-a-fish and expell brass cartidges out of boom sticks by the thousands. This year was our 5th time doing so.

So, the 2nd year we had done this I decided, like always, that I was going to wake up before anyone else and go fishing out in this ancient jon boat we had out there since we were in highschool. So I poured myself a fresh rum and coke. We usually camp out right next to this giant pond that covers about 9 acres. It's massive. Well, there is a spot in the shallows I like to fish from where I can cast out into a really deep part of the pond. The spot where I anchor the boat is only about 2'deep. Well, this morning, I guess the plug for the back of the boat finally gave out and started letting water in. The plug was in the back, I was slaying fish at the front so I was unaware. By the time I realized that the boat was just about sunk, I said screw it and kept fishing. When my friends woke up, they saw that I was sitting down, in the middle of the water still fishing, still enjoying my rum and coke. When they asked where the boat was and why I was sitting in the water, I reported that I was still sitting in the boat and that I was in need of assistance; I was getting low on my drink. This story has been brought up every camp out since then and the name has stuck whenever the story is told.

Sorry for the long story, but that is where CaptainMorgan_SOS came from.
