There is a bit if setup if you want to maximize your range. I bought a CB and mag mount antenna off amazon and had it working without tuning it. Working as in when I did hook up the SWR, it was acceptable and nearly perfect.

Hearing everyone would be no problem. I wouldn't transmit until you've hooked a SWR meter to it.

The danger is if you have a bad match between the cb an antenna, when you o to transmit you could burn up the transmitting transistors. Receiving is much more forgiving, and I've used coat hangers in places for a receive antenna.

I never tuned mine. It works good within a few car lengths but fades in and out a lot.

All radios are about the same, just fancier than others. Your antenna matters most. Try truck stops.

Ok, so CBs are not readily available. If I just buy 2 way radios would anyone else have one?

There may be some others. The batteries have gone bad in mine. If not, it isn't a big deal. It's nice to have radio communications of some sort but you'll be fine without it. The main thing I like to do is be sure the first and last trucks have radios. Any others are just a bonus.

Look into the hand held CBs then get a magnetic mount. They are quick and easy to mount and don't have to cut or damage anything.

I believe that's what Yodamonster has. I'll likely get a hand held too. It would be nice to have communication with people still on the trail when I'm out of my X, it could come in handy spotting and I could always loan it to someone without a CB.

Like I said, I have 2 2 way radios I will bring. They have like a 2 mile range or something. I have a small charcoal grill, any need for it? I know NMG said he has a little propane one. I think Nismo has one also. Can we all share or just bring our own? I can have my wife make some pasta salad for us. No big deal....

Anyone is welcome to use my grill. The only thing I recommend bringing our own would be hamburger meat because everyone has a different preference. Oh yeah and beer, because sharing could get expensive for someone.

I have a pack of beef hot dogs and some buns I'm bringing. I don't drink so no worries there. I don't frown on it. I want to drink, just can't for medical reasons.... Thanks for the use of your grill NMG.....

If everyone wants to take Haley Road off the mountain and stop by Ketner's Mill like on the January ride we can swing by Subway for lunch if you like. It would give a chance for a restroom break if needed then the only cooking needed would be in the evening. Just a suggestion.
