Things that are worth spending money on....

This is something I was discussing w/ my business partner today. And it strikes me as something that is worthwhile discussing with lots of other people.

What things do you think are worth spending money on?

And I'm not talking about our trucks...because that's obvious...or guns, or anything of that nature. I'm asking about the rest of your world. Stuff that others would deem "stupid" or "a waste."

One of my big ones is water pressure in the shower. I have absolutely no compunction about spending $100+ on a well designed shower head & immediately disassembling it to remove the flow restrictor. Yes. It makes my water bill go up. But I don't care. It's worth my money for my shower to not feel like the dog is licking me clean.

I actually travel with a shower head, channel locks, and Teflon tape when I go to hotels. I swap that crap in a heartbeat.

kitchen stuff, such things like knives, counter tops, i'm a huge kitchen guy, that was the hardest part about me finding a house, i had to have a kitchen that was usable for entertainment. I had no problem spending a couple grand more for a decent one i could see suited me well with upgrades. As far as kitchen appliances, no problem dropping a couple hundred or worthy pots, pans, stove, fridge, sinks, etc.

Knifes, like edc knives. I have put my knife though hell and back.

Sound system. Both in car and hone audio. Prime I'm sure you agree, but one day when I have the lettuce to spend on true home entertainment system, I will need to have a premium system.

Pillows. Going off Az, you can have a million dollar mattress, but if your pillow is a pile of sand, you won't sleep well (unless you go without a pillow)

Shoes. I am almost girly in this sense.. I have ~30 pairs of shoes. People ask why.. Well I've had some pairs for years and they haven't been worn out, faded or torn and I rotate them regularly. Sure some shoes get worn more than others but I would rather buy nice shoes, multiple pairs, then to buy just one pair, burn those out, buy another and repeat.

Alcohol. Cheap alcohol =bad hangover. I'm not saying I buy top shelf alcohol but I don't pay 12 dollars for a half gallon.. That's just asking to have a head pounding miserable morning.

Lol. I didn't even think about that. Yeah, I'm definitely on that page. Considering the straight retail of the system in my house and truck is probably close to about $20k.

But, that's one of the perks of being in the business.

Anything and everything. Now let me explain. Kitchen items...hell yea. I love to cook and want the quality items to cook with in my kitchen. Tools...Craftsman. Mustard...Guldens(sp) brown. Tuna --- solid white/Albacore in water, Alcohol--- Single Malt Scotch(it's soooo worth it).

I was told once that if there's something you want/like why depend on someone getting it for you... get it yourself! So I'll spend the extra money on something just because it's what "I" want.

I will always buy REALwood furniture going forward - I have one dinning room table made of real wood and it's been able to handle everything the kids have thrown at it for 10 years (I bought it a few years prior to them coming along). I bought a nice looking table 6 years ago (not cheap) and within a year or two the thin layer of veneer was peeling up in areas and if you set anything hot it discolors it - I hate this table but I cant justify throwing it out either. I just wish I knew where to buy real wood furniture anymore. I guess I will have to make one next time. Any furniture in my house that has veneer on it has some issues visually already. spend money on the good stuff.

I'm kind of surprised somebody brought this up yet but ...Tools! And not necessarily just ones for your truck but just to have around the house and general having a good set and spending extra money on power tools, drills, anything always pays off in the long run

Sunglasses. I hate cheap ones. Of course, I usually end up scratching the nice ones right off the bat and have to do it all over again, but...
also:
- wine. Once you start drinking $12-15 bottles, it's hard to go back to the cheap stuff. Then you start on $20-30 bottles and ... well you get the idea.
- fly fishing gear. I hunt ebay for deals, but you can't beat the feel of a sage, Thomas & Thomas, Winston or the like, especially light rods on small streams

Sports gear..whatever your sport may be. Soccer/Football/Softball/Baseball whatever. Cheap cleats fall apart. Cheap bats don't perform the same etc.

+1, well I am a college pitcher and I love a premium glove. I hate 50 dollar sport authority gloves. I need/want the $300 premium glove that won't fall apart, that is easy to relace, and will break in nice

Haha I knew I'd strike a chord with that one.

I'm willing to spend a little extra to get name brand soda. I know it's not big money but I'll be damned if I buy Mr Pibb or Dr Thunder.

Boots, I'm not ever going to own another pair if Wal mart work boots. I bought a pair of cheap ones to work at the peanut mill years ago and that won't happen again. My boots cost upwards of $200 but I don't by them but every three to four years.

Organic foods veggies, meats, spices, alcohol it just tastes better. Redwing boots, not the Chinese ones. Of course tools, hey don't always have to be the best sears hardware and, dare I say harbor freight tools are both with in 2 minutes from the house.

I'll agree with boots for sure. My new work boots were $170 I think but they are leaps and bounds more comfortable than a Walmart boot. And will last 10 times longer. My last pair was $120. That was 4 years ago and they still get some wear.

Also beer to a certain extent. Many people call domestics cheap, and they are compared to craft stuff. But I'll never buy a cheap domestic again (natty light, Busch etc).

i wish mine were 170, i had to pick up another pair this season. 483 out the door for whites, BUT these boots can be fully rebuilt for just under 200 bucks so in the long run its worth it.

I agree completely. Sure I use a little more water, but then again how much water would I use wasting extra time trying to get the soap fully rinsed off with ridiculously low water pressure? My Xterra uses more gas than a Prius too and it's money well spent for me.

in general now I spend more money on everything and I think I save it in the end. I always am willing to drop the money on the right stuff for the job. From tools to safety equipment.

Cell phones and other electronic devices (whether that be a tablet, laptop, camera, etc...) I spend so much time using especially my phone that I don't mind getting whatever the latest and greatest is whenever I upgrade. Whether that be once a year or more often (I've been known to be hard on them for an excuse for an early replacement)

My last pair where $325 out the door. I'm going to have to find out if there are any local suppliers that can rebuild the Whites first like I have with red wings.

I bought a pair of hiking boots that were around $200 and after 2 hikes the sole got a huge crack in it. So now I have a $70 pair of boots and have hiked probably 200 miles in them and very little wear.

For me it's camera gear. I have no issue throwing down $2000 on a camera body or a single lens if I can use it. Maybe not for shooting an Xterra, but as always...hobbies are expensive. :)

Gun stuff also. I've never thought hey, I'd like to have a cheap rifle just to plink around with. No, I want the good stuff.

Also electronics to an extent. I'm not a tecchie per say, but when it comes time for me to upgrade something I want something nice.
