I hadn't noticed b4 but.. I
was parked at night and noticed when I used the windows my lights would dim, interior and exterior, I could hear a strain on the idle too.

Does this mean I need a bigger alternator and dual batteries now!? Haha and that fridge and OBA and more lights and...

Last time I noticed that my battery gave out not too long after.

When buying coil springs..

0-2" 5100's and Nisstec 2" spacers are purchased. I only want around 2" of lift so I don't have to upgrade UCAs yet.

Should I be looking for coil springs that are extended by 2" (or however they rate them) and ditching the spacers or would I be better off just buying stock size but 650# for all the weight I'm adding...?

*re-reads the second time..these guys are gonna think i'm an idiot..you will understand this, you will*

What shocks are the springs going on?

Just finished reading your gen2 build in it's entirety and wow. You've got one hell of a truck and well thought out!

Which switch panel did you swap out again to get the 5 switches instead of three? As far as what I should be looking/shopping for..

Coil springs are a huge pita to adjust later on vs spacers in the case where you accidentally get more lift than expected so my vote would be regular coils and use the spacers to adjust the lift amount.

Thanks. I don't know how well thought out it is. I have a tendency to cut first and figure it out later.

The 5 switch panel is from a 11+ Frontier LE. It had factory heated seats so it needed more switches. What year is your truck?

So in order to do the switch console you have to swap the entire center stack to the 2010+ version like I did. Which isn't cheap. Or easy.
When you say center stack are you talking about the 5 switch panel by the 4wd selector or do you mean the overhead console? I don't want to do the dash, I'm good old school style and orange lights aren't so bad..

Point taken.

I wondered as nothing is for sure as far as exactly how much height a setup will provide.
What the General said.

I'm talking about the climate controls, radio bezel, and vents.

If I were you, I'd set the 5100s at +.5" of lift and add a 1.5" lift spacer. The .5" of lift will provide some pre-load on the spring, to help accommodate the weight.

Thx, I've read so many different things and back when I first caught the fever I bought some 5100's and 1.5" Nisstec spacers so I should be good there and just going to put some 2" shackles I've got in the rear with 5100's till I can afford new leaf packs.

I'm still sorta confused about what actual coil springs I need. I think I need some stock sized but at 650# rate to handle the steel bump, winch, armor, etc. Am I right? I need to just call someone up and inquire.

Either way, any suggestions on where to buy. I'd like to go Radflo setup but not for a few years..

5100's aren't valved to deal with 650lb/in springs. It will be very hoppy in the front end. I think you can use OME Heavy springs which are around 500lb/in and then use the adjustable seat to fine tune your ride height. I had 600lb/in coils on 5100s and it would pull the front tires off the ground coming out of pot holes because of the front end hop. I run Rads with 650lb/in coils now and it's nice and smooth because of the valving to deal with the spring rates.

Oh wow, yea I don't want wheel hop or to worsen my ride quality, too much. Would 500# springs be sufficient though being that I'll add about 200 lbs with bumper, winch and lights? And full skids too when I can afford to invest a chunk agian..

When replacing axles what else would be a "need to do" while I've got it taken apart? I want to have everything together that I'll need before I start. Hoping not to run into any unforeseen troubles or the, I wish I would have done that when...

I would think you'll be ok. You'll just have to raise the coil seat to set your ride height. The OME coils are longer than OE I believe so you'll want to pay attention to coil bind on compression once you get everything on there. I'm not sure if there are any other aftermarket coils you can run on 5100s.

I think the next step up Bilstein (can't remember model number) has calving and coils for heavier loads if you need to upgrade later on though.

What axles are you replacing?

Get the ABS sensors with the donor M226 or be ready to pay out the ass for new ones. And my OG driveshaft bolted right up, the C200 shaft is a few inches longer BTW, but seems either works fine, at least with a lift. Its really a simple swap. Oh and you have to swap in the front r180 with the matching gearing. Oh, and you have to wire in the switch for the locker. Its all worth it. Preferably get a m226 from and 07+, as somewhere in mid 06 they upgraded from a 2 spider gear to 4 spider gear setup. Probably wont ever have a problem with a 2 spider gear, but might as well get the stronger setup.

Damn, the drivers side ABS on the donor m226 is bad. That plug and wire are $250! It came with the matching r180 and switch.
Can I harvest the ABS line at a junkyard instead of new?

I haven't actually gotten down there to look. With my luck it's probably a good idea to just cough it up for a new one.. This was supposed to be pain free~
