All y'all who are "hatin'" on Texas and still living here - GTFO. I'll take Texas over any other state in the union right now. We ain't perfect, but we are plenty "good enough."

How'd you manage that?
I was good at what I did, I need the ins still and I'm working on SOPs at the house for the dept I designed, put through it's paces, troubleshot and ironed out and not to pat myself on the back but is now creating hundreds of thousands of additional cash flow for the owners phatass pockets.

Anyone using the Google nest wifi setup? Thinking about adding that and a Nest thermostat to the house.
Nest thermostats are great if you have a regular schedule of being in and out of the house. Otherwise, I think Ecobee is a better Stat. Especially with the ability to add remote sensors to it to monitor rooms that the thermostat isn't in.

I've had mine for a few years and like it. Look and see if your energy company gives you a rebate for upgrading. I think I got a $50.

I’ve had a Nest smart thermostat for a few years. Works fine with no issues for me.

The thermostat is less of a concern. We don't have central air, we have to use window units. Our house is old and doesn't have space to put in AC. We also have baseboard hot water heat. We use a schedule type thermostat with it right now, but not a smart one.

I have Nest WiFi (three old generation pucks and one of the new ones with the speaker built in) and they work great. Have the thermostat two cameras, and the camera doorbell. Love that everything’s easy.

What kind of ranges between them do you get? I have AirTies Mesh nodes right now. Do you use the one with the speaker enough to justify the cost? I'm on the fence with it.

Currently sitting at a bar. Drinking a beer. Like a normal person.
Well................... we drive Xterra's ; so normal ? Probably not !! And then some of us put 3-5 time's the value of the vehicle into up grade's that we eventually upgrade again .

I think that put's us into the ABBEY-NORMAL type category.
Lol :Do_O:eek:

Range is decent enough for indoor use, but placement is important. We’re in a three story townhouse but a “longer” one front to back and placing the main one in the middle would’ve been fine for WiFi inside.

We needed three only because we wanted desktop computers upstairs that don’t have WiFi and we have the cameras outside on the other side of brick-front thick exteriors. The older/original WiFi points have two Ethernet ports, so you can plug two computers in to get connection. In my case, my desktop is just really old and my work laptop has WiFi disabled.

We have the main hub towards the back of the house on the main floor, the second hub in the ‘office’ bedroom on the top floor but positioned right by the window for clearer signal to the cameras, then we stuck one on the main floor on a shelf by the stairs right at the middle to act as a bridge. That was only necessary because the two were so far away and the one was on the opposite side of a computer, monitor, printer, and other interference.

The fourth one with the speaker in it we only got as a gift from somebody I helped install theirs and they didn’t need it. It was a smaller house and they bought a 3-pack from Costco because it was on sale. I use the smart speakers quite a bit and have them everywhere (love multiroom music especially), but I wouldn’t pay extra to have it integrated. You can get the generic smart speaker puck frequently for $10 or less on sale or even free. Plus, the one with the speaker built in does not have the outgoing Ethernet ports in it.

I drink canned beer from the garage fridge so I can afford more Xterra parts. Around me, drinking a beer in a bar means paying at least $5 per glass if I want the cheapest watered down special on tap.
