Purpose for a GEN2 BL

If the opportunity presents itself a Gen2 is a possibility for me. Coming from a Gen1 background, a BL is relatively simple to give extra tire clearance. I read the DIY for the Gen2 BL and it seems pretty intense. Since 33's will fit w/ only a possible melt mod needed, what then is the need for a BL on the GEN2, 35's?

Firstly you can buy a gen 2 body lift from nisstech, second if memory serves (I could be wrong ) you don't need a body lift to fit 35s you just have to trim the front fender and have a 2inch lift,

I ran 285 75 16s with zero lift on Francine with only the melt mod.
We now have bilstien adjustable lift up front and shackles in the rear. My goal it to run 35" tires down the road. Gearing would be something to look into first. I have drove mudchets rig with 35s and it has lost a little get up and go. Still nothing like the gen 1.

Dave, 35's is my goal on the Gen2, as well as on Steena. I just thought it was rather a daunting task to put a 2" BL on a '14. So I'm thinking it's not really needed.

The gearing is another thing. While doing so is that where the Titan Swap comes into play...upgrading everything at once?

There are a million ways to put 35's on... A body lift is one of the cheaper routes, as for gearing for 35's it's helpful but not necessary, if you are buying a brand new 2014 I personally wouldn't do anything to it for a while and focus on building the gen 1, as most mods will ruin warranty...

Some people gear the stock r180 and some swap in the Titan diff when performing the gear change, when doing the m205 (Titan diff) you can either use v8 pathy half shafts to keep a stock width or if you use the Titan half shafts you need Titan control arms to match and it will make the truck wider, then you would need spacers in the rear to match the new front width

Ok...some light has come thru. The issue of a BL is not that it's required for larger tires but rather an option as is a Melt Mod.

A Titan Swap (full) requires the M205, control arms and half shafts from a Titan plus rear spacers. HOWEVER, a partial Titan Swap can be done as well by regearing the R180 and swapping the Titan Control arms and using the half shafts from a Pathy.

Wow...soo many options based on how deep your pockets go.

The problem I see with all this is that someone new to all this has pages and pages of thread after thread to read thru and try to make sense of it all. 1 wrong turn and off you go in the wrong direction. What I've learned from modding Steena is that there is 1 starting point, 1 mod that all others are basically built on top of... a BL. I'm trying to find that Gen2 starting point.

As far as a warranty... "WE DON'T NEED NO STINKIN WARRANTY!!!"... :lols:

Correct.. Most guys in Colorado that run 35's are also running a 2" BL, and if you run 35's without the BL you'll be trimming the fenders. As for the R180 TS you don't have to run Pathy half shafts (they are really expensive)

I have a body lift that has been sitting in my room for 2 months now. I think next weekend I"m going to bight the bullet and do it. I do have a titan swap done but due to my wheels that have a different backspacing I know 35" will not fit front or back without major trimming front and back. I'm currently running 33". So for me the body lift is needed to fit the 35" i'm about to order. I do have a manual and I can tell you with the amount of weight I have added and running 33" I can feel the sluggish difference between now and stock so I am re gearing. I do carry around more weight then the average person.

Hey Metzican,
I'm TS also and getting ready to Regear and add the Front Locker, been going back and forth about the doing the BL but I really think it's the best way to do it for the 35's.. My fenders have been cut and I still think I need the extra 2" to get the clearance.. What gears are you going to run? Still debating between 4:10's and 4:56's

I've done a BL on a second gen. It's not that hard. And it does make a HUGE difference in stance and the way the truck looks.

The only thing that's complicated is that you need to buy / fab the brackets for relocating the front bumper.

I'm going with 4.56's. They are already on order. That way If I ever go crazy and move up to 37" I won't feel bad. But I can never go back down to 33's with them though.

Prime. The front and rear bumper are the number one reason I have not done mine yet. I'm not looking forward to drilling all the new holes and don't mention mounting and remounting all these heavy ass bumpers solo.. The back one Bucksnort already had predrilled but who knows how close they line.
