I feel like the full size Bugout is the perfect "tactical" style folder. Idon't have large hands and i think the Mini would be too small to be effective for some tasks. I've had one of their Griptillians, two Freeks, and a Northfork. I also have a Kershaw Blur and several other folders in that category and the Bugout is my favorite. I got it used from a FB group for a really good price so it's beater status.

This week, when I'm not at work, I've been carrying a SAK Climber paired with my Izula. That's been a nice pair if you don't mind doubling up.
Good to know. Apparently earlier November the Bugout was down to $87 — missed out. Now at $124 best I can find.

I like the Izula or Xancudo, but not sure how I’d carry a fixed blade comfortably. I saw the sheath you had but that’s still a lot sticking out for me.

There are other options for the small fixed blades. My buddy Sean uses a kydex sheath to carry his Izula II horizontally on his belt, just left of his belt buckle, right had draw.

I have a Rusty Blades kydex sheath for mine as well I can carry that way, but just personally didn't care for it.

Alright, Im looking for a new smaller pocket-carry that I can possibly attach to a keychain, budget isn't that high right now. I've kinda narrowed it down to the CRKT Squid vs the Kershaw Aftereffect, opinions? Personally kinda leaning towards the Kershaw because it is a bit smaller when closed, but I'm also open to other budget options if someone knows of anything.

Am stuck with what I can smuggle into Canada...

What site are you looking at?

This one is my main go to for blades here in Camada

Both blades are fairly similar. And both are descent quality companies. I havent owned either of these models but have owned my fair share of kershaws and crkt

I was looking here: https://houseofknives.ca/kershaw-aftereffect/

They have the option of shipping to a local store for pickup and seem to have good prices (right now, at least)

Compared to the guys in this thread that know a lot more, I'm not really a knife guy and I don't think I've ever spent more than $40 for one, so my suggestion is probably not worth much. But, for a cheap, very small knife that lives on my keychain and has held up well under daily use for things like opening boxes and light duty cutting, I've been happy with the Kershaw Cinder. I paid about $7 for it in 2019 and it's still going strong.

The blade is tiny, only about an inch long, but due to the locking blade and shape of the handle, I can actually get a solid grip on it. It also has a bottle opener, which has worked well on the occasions I've needed it.

Again, this is not so much a traditional knife as more of a robust box cutter that is capable of some small knifelike tasks. For how I use it, it's been great.

I'm not much help with knives of that size. I've never found one I liked at all. However Kershaw makes a decent budget knife so I wouldn't be afraid of one of their's. I really like my Blur.

I love my blur. Have carried one since I’ve been in the military as well as during all 4 of my deployments. My father carries a Kershaw chive and loves it.

for what @meisanerd is looking for. Both Keyshawn and CRKT will fait up well. Just i think they would be a bit big as a key chain but good for a folder

Yah, Im pushing it for size, but I don't want something super-tiny. Trying to find that sweet spot between large enough to be useful, small enough to easily carry pretty much everywhere, and fits in my current budget. Also want something decent quality, which is why I'm looking something name-brand.

When push comes to shove, I have larger knives lying around for the serious work. Not quite to the collection some of you all got going (I wish, but I have way too many other expensive hobbies...).

The Kershaw Leek is a neat little knife. Not as small as some you've mentioned though.

CRKT makes a lot of blades in that size as well.

Both use knockoff steels for their affordable lines but they are decent steels. Not as expensive as the S30V and more exotic metals but they take and hold edges quite well for a beater and EDC blade.

The ESEE Zancudo is a great blade, made by Blue Ridge Knives for ESEE. It's s neat little AUS-8 drop point frame lock that I really like the fit and feel of. I don't know how hard it would be to get into Canuckistan though.

Hey man, I wrote that country song - however there is something to be said for knowing a thing or two about good cheap knives. The knife I’ve spent the most on recently (maybe ever, unless you include swords which was a ripoff mistake) isn’t even in the rotation since the cheaper ones do what I need better. My EDC was $29, and I like it enough that I bought 3 more, and one as a gift for my brother.

Too big for a key chain but I really like my Kershaw buck commander . For something to fit in your pocket I've been very HAPPY with it . Working on a boat I am continually cutting rope and other thing's . Just my 2 cent's !! :DYou can pick these up from $11 - $1720220111_094026.jpg20220111_094043.jpg

Alright, Im starting to regret asking. Too many things added to my wishlist now :p

Probably going to grab the Kershaw AfterEffect, its the right combo of size, budget, no major concerns, and "ooh, I kinda like the looks of that one best"... And then going to convince my wife that I need a bigger budget, because one can not own too many knives...

For the record, I have nothing against budget knives. I'm actually rather fond of my SAKs and have several cheaper blades for different reasons.

I decided a long time ago though that I wanted to carry nice knives. I started with the Kershaw Blur in S30V, made in USA, and a nice sized folder.

My current, end all, beat all, tactical folder is the full size Benchmade Bugout in S30V. If you follow this thread, you know I think S30V is the ultimate EDC steel and why. And the Bugout is the most efficient yet still hand filling package I've found to tote a piece of it around in.

But for handy, a SAK Climber or Huntsman are hard to beat. The Victorinox steel is also pretty tough and sharpens easily which I think are the keys to a good EDC knife. And a toothpick, I mean come on.....

I agree with @TerryD regarding budget blades. IMHO the only useless EDC blade is one you leave at home cause you don’t like it.

as For all of the blades I own I’ve been collecting since I’ve been the age of 14. And a Few of them have been put through hell and back.

Rode with a buddy to Cabelas and a couple of liner locks followed me to the checkout..
They were 10 and 17 bucks usd and I've been wanting something super light for shorts.

I noticed yesterday my Benchmade Griptilian's clip was loose, and then down to the toolbox to realize I don't have a T6 bit. I went to Walmart to grab a cheap set, then decided to spend a little more to get a small "electronic repair kit" to keep in the desk upstairs. Tightened the clip and all is well. This morning I am looking for an envelope on top of my dresser, and stumble on a small set of micro tools/screwdrivers, one of which is a T6. Figures.

But more on topic, I picked up a Benchmade 940 (original) and ordered a third party deep carry clip for it. Once that gets here I'm going to send the Griptillian in for sharpening and service.

The 940 looks nice. I think they make really nice knives.

First impression is significantly lighter than the 551 and feels much smaller even though visually it’s not a big difference in size.
