I bought 10 of those From Amazon, $8.00 each free shipping.. Many years ago, half with fire starter green, orange, Keeping my bright orange one with My Life Vest in kayak.

Made some good easy fires with that striker!. In good stormy conditions.. Using Vaseline & cotton Balls.

For night time OP's.. if you need to be spotted by a FLIR system. Flick that starter at night.. and avert your eyes.. It's bright.. and can be spotted for miles.

Great for splitting wood with whacking stick.
Great knife!!..

Mounts in the middle with Brass Knobs??. Cut to fit.. Gold would be best!.. But Brass works too.. :)
or a " Y" with Two color Para cord wrap. Olive Drabe/Black..

Nice job on the mount!

can not think of a good way to mount a " Y " Covered in para cord.. Or use para cord to create a loop fastners..

You will have to get creative, on this one. With wood Like black walnut to offset colors.. and highlight the knife.

Board looks really nice.. and once its stained will really look sharp.

The fire starter version for $8? I’m seeing $30 on Amazon as the cheapest I can find. At $8 I’d buy a handful too.

Bore a hole in a rock, wrap blade in saran wrap and put it in the hole then pack in modeling clay. Kind of a sword in the stone kinda thing.

All of mine are the Light My Fire cobranded ones made by Mora. They were around $30 as a normal price but years ago on Amazon I got one for $15 and another for $20. Sierra Trading Post had them on clearance for $12-$15 IIRC. Wish I had bought a few more, since they haven’t been cheap like that for quite a while. I think we have four now, gave a couple away as gifts.

$8 would be an incredible bargain.

A buddy and I were caught in a nasty thunderstorm while backpacking in the mountains and we used one of these knives to baton some firewood and start a nice fire to warm up and dry out. Really saved the day!

Yeah I think every camper should have at least one ferro rod. I left my waterproof matches out once during a camping trip and we got an unexpected rainstorm and that’s when I remembered I didn’t have any more spare striker strips for the outside. The ferro rod actually worked surprisingly well to get fires going. I also keep an empty TP roll stuffed with dryer lint in a ziploc in the pack so I’m sure that was mostly why it was so easy.

all campers, hikers, Etc. needs to have a means to start a fire. Keep inside vehicle/bag. As with wait for a stormy rainy windy day, go make fire!. If yea can make fire in a windy rainy storm.. calm day is a breeze!. In town, take your good sharp knife slices off some ceder splinters from your Neighbors fence. ( not your own) :) .

My Gerber Strike force fire steel is GOLD. add flagging tape to it.. They now called UTC strike force. Big, for Chimp Fist gripping when your near hypothermia & finger dexterity is gone.

Good site for Ferro rods: https://firesteel.com/

I love these things.. Works in water wet conditions. can use lighter, or Ferro rod. Poke/slice hole with your knife for sparks.. Or light corner. burn rate is 12 minutes. roughly.. No mess, non-toxic. Just make sure you have your Big bird nest ready first.

I always carry one of these blast matches in my battle rattle. Along with a bit lighter and some storm matches inside a water proof container

I don't right off. I can check tomorrow. Shoot me a message on Bookface to remind me and I'll drag out a couple blades and check them.

Don’t worry about it. I can also check. With the hardware that’s on my 4. Just asking in case you know off hand.

Deep carry clip from LynchNW arrived today. A little tight so hopefully it doesn’t grind more into my fabric but I like the placement.

I wish deep pocket clips would be a bit cheaper. The cost of convertimg from USD to CAD plus shipping damn near ends up costing me the original cost of the deep picket clip

Yeah this was definitely a splurge. For my griptilian I’m going to send it in and hopefully get a deep carry for the cost of shipping.

So yesterday was a nice birthday. But I was a little bummed when my micarta Bugout scales showed up and one was nearly snapped in half. The lady I bought them from just sent them in an envelope....

She refunded my money so we're good on that end but I was really excited about them...

Here’s a question for you all… I was looking at Work Sharp sharpeners so I reached out to Benchmade and asked what angle to sharpen at. They said “most” of their knives should be sharpened at 15-17° per side. But the only sharpener they sell has a 20° guide on it. So should I just try to flatten out the stroke a little? Or just do 20° and call it good? I never replied back and asked why they don’t sell a 15° if that’s what they recommend.

I free hand on an Arkansas stone for touch-ups and a Lansky 5 stone set to make repairs. I keep a diamond sharpening rod and a Lansky puck in my pack to sharpen things when I'm out and about.

The work sharp is nice, but I think having options makes a difference.

I’m probably not skilled enough to use stones on something small like a knife, but I see Lanksy makes sharpeners with 17° angles. Would you recommend that route for quick touch ups? I’m not too hard on my blades (I have cheapies for those situations) so I just need general maintenance.

I know this isn't the typical knife question as we always talk about multi-tools, pocket knives, etc.

However, I need a new set of good kitchen knives. I checked out my usual go to's of spyderco and benchmade but they only have one-off's. Butcher knife, filet, etc. i want a good set. Suggestions?
