After losing power last night and this evening (maybe more too) an Oncor electrician came by and found a burnt bus bar in our back yard. This effected only us and one of my neighbours. Weird thing was only part of the house was out.

So glad I don't have to pay for this one.

Yikes! sounds like you were missing one of your 120 legs but the other was still running.

Exactly what it was. I still have a couple tungsten lamps in the server closet and watching them come up with an orange glow was weird. Basically the bus bar connections were 30 years old, one got loose and started heating the other two up. Eventually they heated up enough to break the feeder connection. Wait about 30 min and they cooled enough to start conducting again. The electrician cut the old one out and said it was extremely hot through his rubber gloves.

Nice ! The only light we have in kitchen is the fan/light hanging in the middle . When you cut stuff on the counter your doing that in ur own shadow:oops:If it wasn't for the hood light's I'd b short a few finger tip's.
We have the same situation in the kitchen ceiling. Just one central fixture. That's the next project. Cutting in can lights so that we have even lighting in the entire room.

This could have been bad for your 220V stuff like your water heater.

But it's not as bad as losing your neutral!
Had that happen at work once. Main power dipped, but not enough to trigger the generator or UPS. UPS was wired wrong so when our VP of Engineering ran in and tripped the bypass switch, suddenly there was no neutral. Lost several computer PSUs (one even blew smoke in my face) and multiple power strips with MOVs in them. All this happened around 5:15pm. Twas not a fun night.

Our house came with two 4' fluorescent fixtures in the kitchen. Ugh. Replaced them with two track lights of 4 pots each so we have really good directional task lighting now.

And LED all the things.

Bad part of LED's they fail, some sooner. I Got into habit of using a pencil or sharpie, depends on housing/socket. Place a date & Time.
Been averaging on a 10 year LED light for about 1.5-2.5 years. POOF D.O.A. or flicker of death.
glad LED's are getting cheaper.

Oldest begged to go see the new sonic the hedgehog movie. A couple days later got a special for $3 per ticket including popcorn and drink. Great way to spend a bit of time with him and not break the bank

That has a lot to do with the quality of the drivers and heat sinks. In my industry we deal with LED can lights that cost upwards of $500. With a true 10 year warranty on the diodes.

The $10 bulbs at home depot are not manufactured to the same quality.
