Has anyone had a problem with there power steering leaking? i'm talking about the actual hose from the area you put in fluid downwards. i have a gnarly leak on my passenger side and i believe it's the power steering. think its just the hose but was wondering if anyone else had a similar problem.

Not sure if I have a leak or if the pump is going bad, but lately the PS has been sounding awful for the first 10-15min after startup.

I don't think its leaking..I haven't seen any new spots in the carport, and when I checked the clutch the other day, I checked the PS (and everything else, for that matter).

Mine's been pretty bad for awhile now. I noticed fluid on the outside of the container and on the line that runs from the bottom. I tried tightening the clamps, but to no avail.

Mine comes and goes some days it's a drip others it's fine. I think the hoses are all old and need replacement. I priced a high pressure line needless to say it's ok with me if it keeps dripping.

While changing my plugs and wires, I noticed that the upper section of that hose was pretty saturated - thanks for reminding me! The leak totally slipped my mind.

Short answer: Yes.

I'm dealing with a power steering leak right now. I'm going to swap out the clamp at the bottom of the reservoir. Has anyone tried the Lucas stop leak?

That stuff is meant to "fix" leaks with seals in the pump itself, not hoses. Not to mention all it does is gum up your system anyways, I've had it kill a Nissan power steering pump in my younger dumber days.

The problem is the rubber hoses get rock hard from the exhaust manifolds (especially if they are cracked) and either crack or the clamp becomes ineffective. Some people stick a worm gear clamp on there and crank down on it, but IMHO the best way to fix it is just replace the hose. The OEM molded hoses are pretty cheap or you can get a oil rated rubber hose from a hose/hydraulic shop for even cheaper, just not have the molded shape.

I've had this same leak for a while now. Just kept refilling it. Now that I've got to replace the head gaskets, I'll be changing this and many other hoses too.

Hey this caused me to think of a possible new award... BEST actual RE-build...lol.

i had the leak, ended up being my hose and pump, i replaced both last week. the damn hose is stupid expensive, along was like 90bucks the pump roughly around 100 is what i think i paid for it. so much better with it though.

my steering box pours power steering fluid in it... I quit puttin regular fluid in it a long time ago. All that I put in mine is lucas stop leak. Slows the leak down, but didnt fix it. As for the lines, yall are talking about, everyone i looked at leaked lol

Yeah over time the wire clamps cut into the hose loosening the seal on the barb. You can tighten them but really a temporary fix as the clamp will cut deeper into the hose with time and become loose again. Replacing the clamps with some wide screw clamps prevents the clamps from further cutting the hose. Your hose maybe cracked as others have said as well. Hoses don't last forever.

My ps leaks also. I tightened the clamp, it worked for a little while, leaking again, as silver dude said. Time for a new clamp.

Yeah I went to Nissan today to pick up some supplies for the gen 2.. I asked them how much for the ps line for stan and heard 250.. I'm in a pinch here.. Im going to SAS with in the year.. But my ps pump is squeaking bad and my old ps leak pretty good.. I guess I'll ride it out till it dies

If your return line is leaking then it could be pressing air bubbles into the pump making a racket. The high pressure hoses are definitely not cheap. A Savage yard is a good option. Worst come to worst go to a hydraulic shop and have them make a custom hose. The price on the OEM hoses is ridiculous. Used pumps are cheap via ebay I've bought a few at $15. I really need to come up with a fix and how to thread. Mine has been leaking the last 3 years.

white smoke in the exhaust, oil and coolant mixing, coolant leaking from head, white milky oil overheating are all possible indications of head gasket failure.

My smoke has been white but it's also been cold should I not worry I haven't been overheating or had milky white oil

Idk how to work this forum thing but does anyone know how to replace a first gen. Power steering pump? Mine isn't leaking but it's really loud so I guess it's the pump??

My power steering box is just covered with gunk. It constantly makes the whinning noise.. yet the reservoir is always at even and never low. Anyone have any suggestions?

Drain the system and put in new p/s fluid. It does wear out like other oils.
