This is a pretty simple mod..

Time: 1 hour
Tools needed: Philips screw driver, Electrical tape, wire cutters, extra wire, rubbing alcohol

You will need to pop the cover off the rear dome light to expose the 2 philips screws.. Remove both and the light will pop down.
(Insert pic)
Clean the surface where you will be attaching the lights to with rubbing alcohol.

peel the tape off the back of the LED and stick to the metal surface.
Connect the wires from each light per color.. White is Positive, Black negative.

Run the wires to the dome light. ( used a simple wrap attaching to the metal clips for the dome light.
DO NOT CUT the factory wires. Run the 2 wires under the rubber seal up under the headliner

Test LEDs to make sure all your connections are working..

I used electrical tape to cover all wires from the LEDs. They are very thin so the tape will hide them very well
and done

Im sure I will take some detailed pictures for every to use.. but over all this was the best $10.00
mod I have seen.. This will help at every point you use your Xterra..Shopping or on the trails..

Nice! What did you use? Independently switchable or tied to the dome light

I used the dome light.. I wanted it to kick on when the hatch was opened.. This will work in almost every situation.. Mall, Trails, Camping

I love it too. Pretty excited about this one. Sadly...I only reinstalled the dome light. Had to do the Mamma thing while the boys played aka Modded

that is all.

Completely unrelated, but every time I see your truck, I want a Gobi worse and worse.

Also, the lights look GREEEEAT.

The hepsdesigns molle rack?
It's not too bad.. But with that and the ladder we need to upgrade the shocks to a heavier duty

So I have been looking at LED strips like this. Not for this mod but you never know. How hard are these to wire up to a 12v source? do you need a controller or anything. For dimming would any POT work?

All I used was the power from the dome light.. Since the idea was to have them turn on when the gate opened thats all I cared about with this.
The only issue with them is making sure they are running in the same direction. So I would wire it up and test before the final install

hmm, ok so it sounds like if I use a 12volt (14 reality) pot I could dim them. I'm looking at doing this for my camper on the outside for light. and in the kitchen and cupboards for the kitchen and sleeping area. I am going to wire them up similar to yours with a door switch and master switch. So when they are opened the LED's turn on but. I can kill the power if I want/need to.

Also what do you mean running the same direction? As in the way it projects the lights. where did you buy them?

I think he means they come on when the dome light comes on. Either with the hatch open or by manually turning on the switch in the back.
