Its totaled. Lifted F-250 Slammed me at 20 mph

I was sitting with my turn signal on, waiting for a break in oncoming traffic to make a left into the parking lot of the restaurant the company X-mas party was at...

The truck behind me got tired of waiting, and went around me...

...and WHAM!!!!

The guy behind HIM slammed into my butt at about 20 mph (According to the Police)

The guy who rammed me in the butt was driving a lifted F-250 on MT's.

Its totaled....his bumper was ~ even with my spare tire, and he went in hard....driving me forward at oncoming traffic by a couple of car lengths (No additional collisions luckily...)

So, he needs a new truck.

I went to the party, and then later drove the X home.

He did break my rear window glass, so, I did suffer some damage, and tomorrow, in daylight, I expect to find more. A buddy taped plastic over the hatch window while I was in the party, so I just had to get in and drive tonight at least.

I'm AMAZED at the magnitude of the impact at the height of the spare tire...and the relative lack of damage to my truck.

Damn, I'm amazed at the lack of of major damage to the Xterra, TJ. Glad you're not hurt. Looks like you might need a new hatch at the most.

This is the second time THIS YEAR I've been ran into from behind.

The first was some chick in a GTI sedan who had to be cut out with jaws of life, who mostly went under and hit the lower bumper, not the carrier, and then the rear axle/shocks, exhaust, etc....not looking where she was going "Trying to figure out how to use the radio"....

.....and this gentleman from North Carolina, who actually needed to turn where I was turning, but his Tom Tom told him the turn was up at the next light...and who didn't notice my butt in front of him when the truck between us went around me...

It turns out I know the dude's brother real well...a crazy coincidence.

Dang, glad you're OK! And definitely check the frame and everything on the X. I swear, the more I see aftermath shots of vehicles that tangled with X's.... makes me think the Xterra is virtually invincible. I would NOT want to be the "other" driver who hit an Xterra!

I said it before and I'll say it again... You have got to have the X with the most allurement to accidents and wrecks.

Sorry to hear mate. Glad you're ok.

My wife says I am like a giant electromagnet that is activated when an ignition key is turned, and which sucks passing traffic into my rig.

I love it when she talks dirty....

So far, the rear hatch took the brunt of it, its dented and the glass broke, etc.

The exhaust was pushed forward about 18", and is against the D-side shock...there's some extra noise/smell inside...I hope the shock is OK.

The spare tire has a gouge in the sidewall and the rim is mashed a bit....still holding air though.

I'll have to check the carrier itself out more thoroughly...it had to be pushed back to hit the hatch, etc...so its possible it needs to be bent back, etc....and I'll have to look more closely at the hi-lift.

My electrical system is acting funny, the battery flew on impact and some wires were frayed/stretched.

My rear view camera isn't working.

My arm knocked the console lid off on impact...and some console stuff went flying, including a camera, etc.

That seems to be the known issues...I've been too busy with work to spend more time, but the guy's insurance co is supposed to contact me Monday to so an estimate, etc.

You really have a nack for getting into accidents. I think is safe to say with EVERYTHING that has happened to your rig (wiring, battery fires, many accidents, deer) your X is literally thrown together.

Sometimes I feel like I'm holding the X together with sheer force of will.

:D

If I add up all that befallen the poor beast, and that it is NOT dead, its a miracle.

Its had trees fall on it, its been submerged in various bodies of water, has squirrels eat the wiring multiple times, its been t-boned on both sides more than once, its had head on collisions with countless deer, and been sideswiped by inattentive drivers...and been rammed from behind at least a half dozen times, including TWICE this year alone.

In every case, the X survived, and, in almost every case of vehicular impact, it wasn't even damaged....mostly, the ramming vehicles and/or critters were totaled and the X unscathed.

:D

The only notable exceptions so far are the last two rear enders...a brand new GTI going 70 mph (Might have braked down to ~ 40 mph...), low on the bumper and then under to the rear axle... and a lifted F-250 with its own steel bumper hitting at my spare tire height at ~ 20 mph....those did damage.

Even though the X took some damage, it WOULD have been totaled by either of those two last accidents normally...that's a LOT of force.

Figure the F-250 knocked me forward about 40' or so...and my truck is ~ 6k lb on the truck scales when loaded for work. That's a hard hit.
