Think you could share the files that you used for the torch mate? My high school shop has one and ive been wanting to make some skids since the day our shop teacher told us to have at it. I made a cool CAT (caterpillar construction) license plate. But thats as far as ive gone with it....
Your skids would be different though seeing as your not sas'ed

Have you run with 63's before? I find my 3 leaf set-up to still be pretty stiff off-road and I don't think my shocks are helping. I'm running the 1st 2nd and 4th leaves in mine.

Hmm, did you start out with a the three or four leaf pack? 3 or 4 plus the overload?

I am not sure 63's flex or ride any better or worse than the stock Xterra springs. However they are made for spring over axle. Thus hold up one heck of a lot better than the stockers when the spring over conversion is made. The 40 dollar price tag at the junkyards is also really hard to beat. Bang for the buck they are the best deal going.

I have not taken mine off road yet.. however we converted cheftyler's rig to 63's and Rancho 9000's years back. It was nice playing with the adjustability of the shocks for road and off road use. So maybe mine will make the switch... :shucks:

Fantastic build. Bumpers are works of art. Everything looks really well thought out, and the end results are obvious. Can't wait to see more.

Mine started out as the 3 leaf + overload. Now it's a 2 leaf + over load. They do flex well with revolvers, I'm using up all 12" of travel on my shocks right now without the revolvers maxed out. Here's a pic for comparisons sake when you do get to flex the rear.

Don't let him BS you. Minus a front driveshaft and perhaps sliders, she's capable. I was following him up my road last night while I was on the motorcycle and his rig handled quite nicely! And the exhaust that he made for it sounds like a 350Z. I even drove it before he got everything buttoned up tight and man, let me tell you, this is what's going to happen to my truck.

My wife could drive this thing, and his wife has! No bump steer, no brake diving steer, completely predictable around corners, the brakes are solid (and I drove it when there was still some air in the lines) and I love the skinny tires on it. Makes me want them on my own truck. Mine grab like hell in the ruts.

Kudos to Ryan for a nice build.

Now I need to get my crap paid off so I can build my own!

Awesome as usual, what do the rear spring hangers look like? Did you remove the rear factory leaf spring hangers? I've debated removing mine as I tend to get snagged off road more at that location then any other. Thought they seem to brace the frame a bit in that location.

No pics to post of the hangers.. yet. They are frenched into the frame with a hanger I made up that seals the whole thing back up. The mounting bolt is now even with the bottom of the frame and forward of the oem springs a good 5 inches or so.

The setup also makes the shackles hidden behind the bumper.. not hanging down like oem..

This rig is made to be road worthy first... then camping/light trail use if needed.

If Xterras were to come from Nissan with a solid axle... ya down that lines.

"Champ of the ramp" rigs are other rigs in the past.. this build took twice the time..

This was my first sas... wow the years are clicking away..

This truck......is how Xterra's should come off the line.....it looks like it was made to be this way. Everything flows together and fits so nicely. Your work is top notch man. If Nissan took this rig and made them come off the factory like this, Jeep would surely have a run for its money. I mean of course, maybe not as intense as your build but how the sas sits and the bumpers and just give it some smaller tires and it would look like it came off a showroom floor.

I would love to see bumpers like that for the 2nd Gens... Freaking awesome build man!

Not that you 2nd gen folks on here are the same.. however there tends to be a big percentage of bed wetters in the crowd.. I helped Pony Boy with his axles and Creek with his total build. They are both great fellas! All the local guys I know are good dudes... We go to Gone Moab and party like no other... Why is this different when you get on a few of the forums? It is sad sad sad..

Enough said.. back to the rig... :kewl:

Tremendous so far can't wait to see more.

The roof rack is really great. Did you use the stock footing and connection? AND...those side pieces, how thick is the plating?
