Chixterra's build

Subscribed. Very interested in the build, and how much it ends up costing as I may end up doing the same thing with the long travel conversion, putting it together from several sources. They might end up roughly equal...

Quite possibly. I am trying to save money where I can, but without cutting corners. Kind of hard to do with an SAS.

Your build is amazing... never ceases to amaze me how brave you guys are to cut out the front suspension to put in a solid axle. But, even though I wouldn't know if that is in my future, please post a crap load of pics for us! I might need the pics if I ever go that route. :D

You think we're brave? You're the guy who did a diesel conversion without anyone else doing a prior conversion. There is a lot of info on SAS'ing Xterras, but none on doing a diesel conversion, at least till you came along.

I will start taking better pictures of my parts, etc.

Nice! I would agree that its one of the many steps or a true project vehicle, spare car. After I put my trans in I'm saving for a dd. Gives you time to do it right and put other things first, women, job etc.

I'd start in the garage with a sawsall. Personally, I have a lot of desire to seek revenge on the terrible IFS that has drained my wallet and ate my weekends.

Everything has been on hold for right now, while I get some saving done. I just got engaged last week, and spent much more than I wanted on my trip to the UP. So things got put on hold.

After all that work put into the parts and knowledge? Well if no SAS, then what?

Save money, and just use my X the way it is. My SAS was a dream I was trying to fulfill, but money is getting tighter, time is getting harder to find. I have a huge log of parts, and I will probably lose money, but not as much money as I would lose by completing it. I will have to inventory everything, and then figure out where I am going to sell it all.

You never fully realize how much $$$ you put into stuff until you inventory it. I already have quite a bit of money wrapped up in this. Once its all gone, it will be a huge relief. I will give it some time on the forum before I move it to Craigslist.

One's dreams are hard to give up. Even more so when time and money have been invested. HOWEVER !!!! Dreams are things to strive for...slow and mythodically acheived. TIME is your partner here...There is no rush to do a SAS other than PRIDE (the killer of dreams). If you want the SAS do the SAS...no one said it was going to be easy, quick or cheap. If you need a hand, foot or a shot of Single Malt to keep you moving and on track...gimme a holla.

But, if you've decided to not continue with this dream...I'm sure you have another ready to take the forfront...keep moving.

<<<< NOW look over at Gretchen.
