Chixterra's build

Chixterra's build (Going SAS)

I bought the X in October 2010 from a local dealer. She had 72,XXX miles on her when I brought her home. I started looking around on a couple forums, and then, that's when I got bit by the mod bug. I started talking with a friend of mine about lifts (a Jeep guy), and I placed my order a few months after I had bought the X. I went to his place in April 2011 to work on my lift. Now, I am rolling around on a 3" AC SL, with 32" Cooper ST tires on my Pro Comp 7032 rims. I thought I would be done at this point, but I was mistaken. Currently, I am slowly compiling parts, and working on my two axles for my SAS. I have a matching set of axles out of a 1979 Ford Bronco (high pinion Dana 44 front, and high pinion Ford 9" rear). The going is slow since a lot of the bolts are tough to get out thanks to years of rust.

I'm guessing not a female but from Chicago. Nice looking x. Have you talked to James about the rear bumper and sliders?

Yep, from the Chicago area, and definitely not female, lol. I have to talk with James some more regarding those items. But, I am sure he has some ideas for both. I don't anticipate the sliders being too hard to build, but the rear bumper may take more time.

Keep us informed, Please! I wouldn't mind giving him some more of my money for sliders.

I ordered my 33" tires yesterday: after much deliberation, and research, I chose the Kelly Safari TSR's. They're made by Goodyear, and are somewhat similar to the Duratrac, minus $300. I honestly wanted to go more aggressive on the tires, but this is my DD, so I figured it wouldn't be wise considering the rising gas prices. Good think it's getting warmer, then I can ride the motorcycle. I have all my AC BL that I found used, my AC TRA's, and Deeza TRE's and Bandit4x4 bushings all waiting for my mod day in April. I am going to do everything over a 2 day stretch, then I can get an alignment immediately after.

Just finished the rear brakes, and have to finish the u-joint replacement. I am most likely going to pick up some longer brake lines from AC, so I don't bust one during my adventures.

I do like the looks of the duratracs, sounds like you have a little bit of work to do...good luck with everything.

I was thinking about extended brake lines too, I have an AAL and the 1.5 shackle so it goes full droop till the shocks run out and the lines have 0 slack left at that point...kind of scary to me. I was thinking extended lines and longer shocks for more flex.

Really nice x. I wanted one in that color but never could find one.

anways... got a question about those pro comp rims
1: Is the backspace on those 4.5 and wat abou the rub when there stuffed
2: The lugs are recessed right? How big of pain are they to take off the truck?? The rims I have now are ridicoulus and I plan on swapping to a set of pro comp 7089

Those Pro Comp rims are 4.5" BS, but they don't rub when stuffed. The lugs are recessed too, but they're easy to get off. You have to buy the Lug Kit for it, though. With that kit, you'll get splined lugs, with a socket.

I am running the ST's. The STT's are the M/T version: which I hear good things about. They're a harder tread compound, so people get a little longer life out of them. I have heard the only downside to them is due to the harder tread compound: they tend to not be as good as some tires on rock crawling.
