No, alternators do not charge batteries.Alternator charges the starter battery, right? I have a house battery in the trailer (charging off a 20A dc-dc charger).
The issue is, the stock alternator doesn't put out enough juice to charge the trailer battery, the starter battery, and charge my power station that I use to run the fridge. I have a 180A mean green alternator that I want to put in.
Hey XN friends. I’ve been MIA for a while. I hope your all doing good.
My X won’t go into 4wd and ABS and traction control dash lights are on. My Google searches aren’t turning anything up. Can someone pint me a direction?
Thanks guys! Also, hey Matt! Long time. Still doing well?
Front or rear?So I plugged my odb reader in and it’s the right passenger wheel speed sensor.
Thanks guys!
Now, time to get to work. Lol. I doesn’t look too hard to plug a new one in. But like most projects, I’ll probably break something small and spend an extra 2 hours on it. Lol
Gross. Those rear sensors are not cheap.rear right passenger
It should automatically turn off in 4-Lo. However, if you need it off at any other time, the button on the center stack that says VDC and has a picture of a skidding car.
'Cause it isn't a toyota... it is an Xterra. Also when I turn VDC off, the light just says VDC off, no skidding car. I was looking for that. The Toyotas in the group would get the skidding car light if they pushed the VDC button for a few seconds. Tried that but seems it doesn’t work for us.
That's the wrong emoji. It should be celebrating.'Cause it isn't a toyota... it is an Xterra.
Does your cruise control work? Wonder if something under the steering wheel got knocked loose, or an ABS sensor got loose and disconnected-reconnected while your steering wheel was turned. The clock springs I’ve heard are sensitive/fragile, but I thought that was while they were exposed, not while still contained under the steering wheel.More dumb questions, guess I got too deep in the mud (I’ll post to my trip thread later). My air bag light is blinking. I disconnected and cleaned the sensor but no change. Also, my horn sounds like it’s on half power, not the normal beep. Plugged in my computer and got C1163 steering angle sensor safe mode, but that doesn’t seem relevant.
You were feeling the ABLS working to try and get you unstuck. It sends power to the stopped tires by applying brakes to the spinning wheels.I was in 4-lo with VDC off, but when I pushed the gas the “slip” light would come on and it felt like ABS at the wheels. Once stuck if I pushed the gas there was no power.

If you were working the wheel back and forth a little it could have severed the ribbon cable in the clock spring. Mine broken while traveling straight on a bumpy road. Cruise light started flashing.Does your cruise control work? Make sure you wash out your radiator. The coils fill with mud and air can't get throughI’ll have to check cruise control tomorrow. It was also running hot today, temp gauge was higher than I’ve ever seen it. AC blew hot for a minute or so then back to cool. I went to the car was yesterday. They put it on a ramp to power wash underneath and get all the mid. Also sprayed the engine bay. I hope that didn’t make things go haywire. I’ll check out connections to the horn when I get time this weekend hopefully.
If I manually inspect it would I be able to confirm it's bad?Fan clutch. Mine would run hot at idle, but no issues at speed.
As stated probably the fan clutch. If you replace it. IT. MUST. BE. OEM. Do not try aftermarket. So I've been having some overheating issues. Just replaced the thermostat and put in a SC radiator, same issue. What other things could be causing the problem? Runs hot in idle or on the freeway/during heavy acceleration particularly if the AC is on. Which I would like to have when it's 98 outside.
Dang I was gonna ask that question next after looking on rockauto lolAs stated probably the fan clutch. If you replace it. IT. MUST. BE. OEM. Do not try aftermarket.
When e-fans die offroad, you're stuck. When clutch fans die, you can usually wrap them on wire to lock them solid and drive out.Dang I was gonna ask that question next after looking on rockauto lol
Do you know what the OEM brand is perchance?
Also has anyone ever done an e-fan conversion or recommend it?
I am all for simplicity and reliability. My dad suggested it for the potential HP gainsWhen e-fans die offroad, you're stuck. When clutch fans die, you can usually wrap them on wire to lock them solid and drive out.

It's the little thingsIt's a brick with wheels and a minivan engine. The fan isn't impacting it that much

That's actually the first place I thought of for it. I'm gonna win that new Z
