On another note, hopefully it doesn't turn out to be the water pump...it's ~50k miles in since I replaced it when I wrecked the truck in 2018.

That was my line of thinking. I'm just short on cash and running through parts when I'm not 100% sure is stressful

Not likely to be the pump. You say you're getting cooler temps as you drive, so there is flow. Lack of flow would cause the temps to go high and stay high. Convection in the fluid wouldn't happen quickly enough to bring the needle down that noticeably.

I’m gonna be that guy and ask the “how much should I list these for” question because I’ve never sold wheels/tires before. I have a set of five stock rims painted graphite (with a few rock marks) with Falken Wildpeak AT3W (P 265-75-16) with about 6/32” of tread left, so maybe about a year. TPMS, lugs, and center caps will be included.

You'll sell the tires and wheels faster if you have the tires taken off. A popular size like those but being P rated, you'll probably get $300-400 for the tires as a set. But you REALLY limit your audience trying to sell them with those wheels.

Good point. I’ll list them both ways and see what happens.

If I take the tires off I’ll just go ahead and repaint the wheels too.

2013 s. I'm pretty sure of the answer to this, but I thought it best to confirm it with the experts...

Can I run a 285 75 16 tire on stock rims?

Also, how much of a hit on gas mileage will I take going from a 32 to a 33 in tire?

Going on a 3 day Moab trip with a group in October, since I am close to needing new tires, I thought I'd just go ahead, upgrade and do the melt mod. Buying KO2 tires.

You can with the melt mod.

Gas mileage will depend also on what tire and what load rating. If you look at Discount Tire’s website it will tell you the weight per tire of your current one and you can compare it to the new one. Still hard to pinpoint exactly, but a buddy lost about 2 mpg switching to a set where each was only 12 lbs heavier. That’s the only data point I know of. I’m switching from P to LT tires soon and am dreading finding out myself.

Along with the weight difference, you're increasing the leverage of the tire VS the axle so your 3.13 gearing will suffer more.

I ran 285s for a couple years with my 3.13 gearing and while it pulled down my mileage, it wasn't awful thanks to how torquey the VQ40DE is.

My Xterra is pretty heavy now with the bumpers, sliders, skids and all the gear and tools but I still get between 13 and 17 depending on my driving mix and 11-12 off-road. But I've swapped in 3.69 diffs to help.

Thanks for the info! I'll look in to the narrower tire option

I re-geared to 3.36 when I went to a 226 differential, so I ought to be OK there. The shop will put one on the front next week so I can see how much the tire will rub, it doesn't look like it will be too bad. Fortunately, this truck is not a daily driver so dismal gas mileage is not too much of a burden, but it seems like every time I mod the beast, I reduce the mileage- the only mod that actually seemed to improve it was the skid plates, I guess due to aerodynamics.

If I were to look at re-gearing my '03, what would you folks recommend? I've currently got the stock 4.90 gears. With the additional weight of the RTT, and drawers, plus all the gear and very large 32's (32.8, to be exact), Gamora feels very sluggish.

Finally put on LT tires for the first time, so related dumb questions. On my P-rated 265-75-16 I would air down to 20psi and at the end of the trail back up to 40. With the LT265-75-16 do I air down farther to 18 or 16? And what pressure should I try first for highway use?

I run my 285s at 35/38 on the road and the Nittos I run right now seem to like about 18 on the trail.

You just have to play with the pressures and see how they behave.

For road pressures, find a flat parking lot, chalk your tires, then drive straight forward. You will be able to tell what parts aren't in contact by where the chalk doesn't wear off the tread.

Then just watch them over time to see if you need to make adjustments. At 35 in the rear, I was still wearing the outside edges and it wasn't as stable on the road. At 38 in the front I was wearing the centers out.

I run at about 18 or so in the front, and about 22 in the rear on my 03. This is due to the weight I've got in the back. It's worked well for me, and I ran these pressures anytime we aired down on the bdr. Road pressures are 35 in the front and 40 in the rear. For my setup, these pressures allow my tires to wear evenly.

Thanks to you both. I never even considered different pressure front and rear. I’ll do the chalk test and also see if I can get to a CAT scale when I’m in “normal” load to see what the weight distribution is like.

Speaking as an owner of two OR trim Xterra's, both with KO2's, in 32 and 33 inch sizes... in my experience there's about a 1-2 MPG hit on the larger ones. While they're very similar vehicles, the '09 does have a bit more armor, so it's heavier but the underbelly might be more aerodynamic.

The '09 with the 32" tires has never failed to get anywhere I've been in the '06 33" tires one, but we don't really seek out difficult trails. I'm not sure 1/2" extra clearance is all that important, but aesthetically most people feel the 33" tires look "better".

Im having on going issues with my main 100 amp fuse not making good connections. I have replaced the fuse and the power leads going to and from it. Thinking of mounting a 100 amp resettable breaker on the fire wall with new wires again to replace the fuse. Thoughts? input? Concerns?

The resettable breakers are thermal and under hood aren't rated but for 1/2 their value in my experience. I would stick with a fuse of some form.

That makes sense. So stick with a fuse but still thinking to move it to the fire wall. I dislike having to pull the fuse box loose to replace or adjust the fuse.

Stupid question - Are you running a tablet for navigation and if so which one? With the new tablets being gps enabled I'm thinking it may be the way to go. The 2007 had navigation in the aftermarket radio - the 2010 has the factory radio so looking at options

GPS enabled iPad Mini from Swappa.com , in a Ram mount. If I had to do it again, I'd use a full size iPad.

Has anyone removed or bypassed the evap system on their first gen. My charcoal canister is bad and non of the valves seam to be working anymore. I don't have emissions to worry about either. Dont care if the check engine light stays on.

With shrockworks going out of business, and I can’t find the instructions.

Does anyone know what kind of fog lights the shrockworks front bumper will accept? Are the stock size 3in? Trying to find an alternative to stock housings, and morimoto seems to have something that might work for what I’m trying to accomplish

2nd Gen stock fog lights if you got the standard setup. Morimoto makes LED drop ins.
