This my fellow XN peeps is the Thor Mod. Figured I'd share for the rest of you who have the moonroof but hate that the faring gets in the way. I would like to have one of these on my X someday.

Ive heard its not hard to do either.

Now all we need is someone to do a sun roof swap for the moon roof. I really wish mine opened all the way up and just not propped.

That wouldn't be too hard to do. I'd bet you could do it no problem Kristen :)

I wish I could. I don't have the necessary tools or money at the current time.

Maybe something like the split sun roof that the Scion TCs have?

Trying to not get off topic here but you mean a sunroof over the rear seats too? Those are awesome like what some range/land rovers have.

It's been a long time but I have worked with plexi-glass before. I know that it says it's not plexi-glass but I'd bet you it behaves the exact same way.

I think you can just drill through it with a bit and you could secure it with stainless steel bolts and nuts or you could skip that and see about finding something self tapping that was long enough to reach through and grab hold. My only caution with that would be splitting the plexi-glass.

I am glad you posted this because I may need to use some nicer plexi-glass than the regular stuff and this Tuffak stuff looks great. This stuff is used in military aircraft and comes in a bulletproof version as well.

I'd like a DARK one with the NISSAN decal across it, like the current fairing does. But that would be nice to have once Dave gets my basket built.

I did this to mine. I think the next thing I'll do when I finish all the real mods - would be to make a full replacement wind fairing out of the frosted, tinted lexan.

This is the way to go about this! Plexiglas at least the stuff I've played with in the past is too brittle to withstand a rock bouncing down the highway or flying off the back of a truck

I have seen people cut around the Nissan part and then install the plexi glass behind the fairing instead on top like that one is. And I'm sure you could get the glass tinted somehow

You could buy the cheap tint at Wal-Mart and give it a shot doing it yourself since it's not a moving part, and if you mess up you could strip it off and start over.

money? it should be CHEAP. a sheet of lexan from home depot should be around $20, some tint from walmart, and then I'd use some nut/bolt combo instead of pop-rivets....

as far as tools, a dremel should be all you need....(don't forget to put something over your nose/mouth while cutting/grinding the lexan)

I don't have a sunroof (2nd gen) but I'm tempted to do the Thor mod anyway and install my off road lights under there. ;)

You can't tint lexan, or plexiglass... with it being flexible the tint just doesnt hold well... you can get different shades of the plastic though

I'm a 21 year old female still living at home with a part time job and no tools of my own...... Does that make more sense. $20 doesn't just lay around in my wallet.

go to a hobby shop (RC style) and get some of the "window tint" spray paint that's made for lexan and you can paint it, from the under side obviously, and then you're set!

it would look sweet but wouldn't it refract the light quite a bit?

i was thinking a VERY light coat of nightshades would work

or this!

the joy of the spray on is that you decide how heavy you want the tint. Also, they have some spray colors that're made to be translucent, so you can get a bit of color up there and still see through it.

Benn there...except for the bit about being a female. I can in no way relate to that. But, living off ramen and busting my butt through college was totally worth it. It gets better. :)

If you do this mod make sure you carry your sunshade thing for the sunroof with you in hot weather. It gets awfully hot when the sun shines in your sunroof without the faring blocking it. Try driving around without the faring for awhile in the summer sun first.

Or try driving around all summer with humidity in the 90-100% range and no AC. =) Same feeling. I know personally.

Or try driving around in traffic during the heat of summer in a jeep with no top or doors and you are sitting on leather seats blasting a weak AC :)

END THREAD JACK!

I did this mod (didn't know it was a "Thor Mod") when I was on XOC.

All I can say, is to take the wind dam off before you go through a car wash. Mine broke when the arm came down. :/

On XOC back in 2003/04, they were tinting their wind damn mods; however this was as soon as they did it and not after use. I see your point with flex being a factor.

There was one dude selling the shaded plastic cut and drilled to fit the wind-dams on XOC as well.
