I'm reading A New World: Chaos by John O'Brien

I'm only beginning the book but it's already a winner in my book because the main character is a pilot and he's already mentioned flying into Amarillo for fuel and being diverted to Altus because of weather (fiction) just the fact it mentions Altus has added credibility to the author.

X nerds unite!

Bump quote for Tim. This series would make a phenomenal movie series.

Mac you should check out the dresden files. Great book series. And there are a lot of them to keep you busy. It's a more humanly portrayal of wizards and other fantasy creatures

I will have to add that to my ever growing list of books to read. Right now I'm reading sequels to two of the book series I've recommended here.

I do have the info handy so shoot me a pm if you want it. Also, Tim if you're on Android download Aldiko and use that to read these. It's free and didn't require anything special to make it work with these documents.

I know a bunch of us are into Zombie/Apocalypse books. I'm reading a zombie series right now, set in Texas, and the first book has a BLACK XTERRA in it! I won't give anything away, but you should really check the books out, especially if you live in Texas or Oklahoma. Author is Joe McKinney, a San Antonio native, and the series is called Dead World. Reading order is:
1. Dead City
2. Apocalypse of the Dead
3. Flesh Eaters
4. Mutated
They are quick reads and darn entertaining if you like the genre. PM me if you have more questions.
Also, I am using the Goodreads app to track books I've read or want to read, and I highly recommend it!!!

And the aforementioned black Xterra. This book is really good so far.

“I had bought her a brand-new black Nissan Xterra about three months after she got pregnant because I didn’t want her driving around in that crappy Ford Taurus she drove all through college.”

MASSIVE necro post here, but wanted to share an author I'm enjoying. Dennis E. Taylor, author of the Bobiverse series and The Singularity Trap.

Bobiverse is three books: We Are Legion, For We Are Many, and All These Worlds. All are quick reads (Longest is 9 1/2 hours on Audible) and is filled with dry witted sarcasm. Basic outline is Bob dies, and after a hundred years has his brain scanned as the basis of an AI to be sent into the galaxy to find habitable worlds for colonization. He has to deal with AIs from other countries, alien species, and even fragments of his own personality during his journey.

Singularity Trap is a one off that I just finished. In this one, a lowly asteroid miner accidentally sets off a sleeping piece of alien tech, converting him to an artificial life form. The space navy has to figure out how to deal with the potential threat he presents, while he has to figure out how to prevent humanity from either destroying itself or him destroying it.

Man, I had forgotten all about this thread. Gonna have to check out that series MississippiGal mentioned. Is it still availble to download in someone's Dropbox? Speaking of which, I have PDFs of almost all of Clancy and W.E.B. Griffin's works if anyone wants. Just shoot me a DM.

Trying, for the second time, to finish the complete, unabridged version of Steven King's "The Stand". Over 1400 pages in paperback.

Been listening to the Arcane Ascension series. Not a bad YA series. Picked up Spellmonger for my next listen.

Shameless post to up my post count:

If you are into Fantasy type realms with STRONG balanced magic systems you should check out Brandon Sanderson's Cosmere, a literary universe which is currently made up of 3 trilogies, a graphic novel, and 10(ish?) short stories. Compelling reading.

And if you're REALLY ready for adventure the 6 trilogy Robin Hobb universe which begins with Assassin's Apprentice.

I come from a LOTR/Wheel of Time/Sword of Truth Background, and love Sanderson. Also Patrick Rothfuss's The Name of the Wind (trilogy) is good.
