I finished rise of the governor this week. Now I'm starting on a book called Apocalypse Z: The Beginning of the End. By Manel Loureiro. So far everything has been written like a daily blog. I've only read about a dozen pages.

World War Z is kind of like that. It's more a series of interviews with survivors of a zombie apocalypse ten or so years afterwards.

This book is amazing. An everyday lawyer in Spain winds up as one of few survivors left in the world as they know it. It's written very realistically and its charm therein lies. It was a cheap read and I'm looking forward to the publishers getting the sequels translated from Spanish to English.

Reading Les Miserables now....seen the musical a few times but, in favor of the new movie/musical coming Christmas Day, I figured I'd read the book...I'm quickly realizing I may not want to...

That new movie looks pretty good.

My newest reading adventure is called Final Dawn by Mike Kraus

I'm only a few pages in so I can't give a good impression on it yet.

Agreed, loving the way they're doing the new movie...they say for once instead of having the actors pre-record the audio then mime along to it, they're making them sing each take live...

Alright, I just finished up part give of the final dawn series and it has got very interesting. I finished at the perfect time because part six was released this month so I bought that for 99 cents. I would recommend this book at the bargain price.

I'm also interested in the Dresden files. Lately, I've been reading some mysteries for a book club I'm in, but I read a lot of steampunk novels and have some apocalypse and zombie books in the queue soon. I read 52 books last year and have a goal of 72 this year. Anyone on goodreads?

Ahh found it.... My latest new book is "We Lucky Few: Portraits of Courage and Sacrifice from Southeast Iowa"

It's a book full of interviews with WW2 vets, to include my recently deceased grandfather. It's good to get to read something that reminds me of him and his unerring sense of duty.

So excited to find this thread! I'll go ahead and open up a little, i have a serious addiction to Louis Lamour! I also enjoy Zane Grey and Tony Hillerman. I can read Tolkien all day and I also enjoy C.S. Lewis. Tom Clancy is always a good read as is one of my other favorites Michael Crichton. My biggest complaint about Crichton is that he hasn't written enough, I never get tired of his stuff. Clive Cussler is more habit forming than meth, I love how every book showcases a different classic car from his collection. Grisham is always entertaining and I absolutely loved Ender's Game, however I have not read the sequels. Go ahead and judge me if you want but dang it I like Nicholas Sparks too. I'm positive I'm forgetting some but those are some favs! Love this thread!

It's a shame Crichton died, too. I agree on really enjoying his works.

Currently I am reading "Super Freakonomics". Quite enjoyable and educational so far.

I'm reading A New World: Chaos by John O'Brien

I'm only beginning the book but it's already a winner in my book because the main character is a pilot and he's already mentioned flying into Amarillo for fuel and being diverted to Altus because of weather (fiction) just the fact it mentions Altus has added credibility to the author.

Why wouldn't they? I mean, if AMA and LBK were both under a storm, if Altus could get him refueled, might make sense...

I forgot to mention he's air force so while it's not secret information there's a base here it's still cool that the author knows his stuff.

This book is really starting to pull me in. When that happens I tend to read more often.

And within a few days of starting I'm done. On to the next of the series. I read the authors bio and he is retired air force and special ops.

And another one bites the dust. This is a very entertaining series. I am probably going to wait a few days before buying the next book since I read those two so quickly.

This book series keeps getting better and better. I think I've read two more since the last time I posted about it. This time I'm writing because one of the soldiers back stories includes growing up I'm Clovis, NM another AF city that I have happened to live very very near for a long time. It's another cool coincidence for small Towns like these to be mentioned in any book not related to history, Clovis man, or the air force.

I just started reading Stephen King's "Under the Dome" after watching the pilot of the same named tv show on CBS last week. The book so far is better lol.

In the spirit of the season as well as having our beloved walking dead return to TV, I'm re-recommending this book and author. He just released the sequel and I'm re reading this book before I read the sequel. A very good read for anyone who wants a good book to go with the Halloween/zombie season.

I also just finished up the Newsflesh trilogy and was thoroughly impressed with Mira Grant's writing the whole way through.

I am currently listening to book on tape of "Micro"- started by Crichton, finished by Douglas Preston. I'm fairly enraptured so far (started listening on my drive home from SLC).

I am also finally reading "World War Z". I am one of those must-read-book-before-the-movie types, haha.

No "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance" fans here? If you are mechanically oriented and enjoy some deeper thought, it's a great read. Probably my favorite book of all time. I read it in a kinda depressing point in life and it made a big impact on me. Parts of it have stuck with me for years and probably will until I'm old.

I'm currently stalled about halfway through "A Feast for Crows". I really want to keep reading, but life gets in the way. Too much time will pass and I end up having to go back about two or three chapters/characters to remember what's going on. The first three books took me about four months. The fourth has been taking me about six so far.

I also really enjoyed "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo," but I made the mistake of watching the movie (the American one) first. I'll have to pick up the series once again when I finish the ASOIAF series.
