Since I did a fair amount of bar hopping on my trip (mainly in Philly) I had quite a few beers I'd never tried or heard of. I had evil genius evil IPA and Green Flash IPA which were both very good. I had Allagash and Pauluner (both tasted similar to Hoegarden) which I don't like at all.

I also had some of the blue UV vodka and some other girly type shot that I liked. And a Jameson and ginger which was very tasty (and not girly lol)

I hate that there are no pubs/bars/breweries that I can hop around close to me. Everything like that is an hour drive away which is much to far for a cab.

Palate Wrecker. It's pretty ruthless. I'll not be drinking it again, but it also isn't gonna go to waste tonight.

Right now I'm drinking a gin and tonic. Bombay Saphire, lime tonic (since we forgot to pick up fresh limes) and a few fresh leaves of basil. Yes, basil. Makes a great addition to a simple G&T. Mint is a good addition too.

Here's something delicious that my wife Allisonn came up with or saw somewhere:

She took half a personal-sized watermelon, and cubed it. Then half a pint of strawberries, and quartered them. 10 or so fresh leaves of basil and a few leaves of fresh mint. Bruised the basil and mint, and added it, the melon, and the berries into a 1 liter pitcher. Poured it 3/4 of the way full with gin and added (I think) 2 tablespoons of simple sugar syrup.

Let the mixture sit for 6 hours minimum, but overnight and half a day works best it seems...we then mixed it with lime seltzer. I mixed mine with lime tonic. You can strain the fruit and leaves out before pouring, or leave them in.

Either way, it's a delicious and refreshing summer cocktail.

Cheers!

J, how is the Oakheart? Been meaning to try it.

It's the only worthwhile rum Bacardi makes. It's similar to Captain Morgan and Sailor Jerry, with a stronger hint of vanilla and molasses than either of those. Not a smooth as SJ though. For the money, it's a fine rum.

This looks like a good thread for my second XN post. Never mind the Xterra stuff for now.

I have a Firestone-Walker Union Jack IPA in hand right now with a lineup of New Belgium Rampant Imperial IPA, Marble IPA, and EddyLine Crankyanker IPA.
