What is that mat made of? Is it sound dampening? You should be able to get at the latch right behind it. (You said you could feel it - I should read the whole thing before replying.) I must have the only X with absolutely nothing between the plastic and a single sheet of metal.
I would say this. I just happened to grab a pic the other day. The handle just pulls a cable with a ball at the end. If that popped out, it’s not actually pulling anything. Arrow is where the cable attaches. The little hole cut is where you stick your finger through to push the hatch from the inside.

I’m not sure you can get off the trim without opening, but may be worth the shot. If you drill a bigger hole for your mod, you can still cover it with an outlet cover and you may be able to get long needle nose in to grab the cable.

Or maybe an “extendable” magnet rod would pick it up and...
Well, I don't know what was wrong. I'm thinking it was just a bit loose and while in there messing with things I've bumped something and it's miraculously now all of a sudden working again w/ the handle & locking/unlocking with the key fob. The key mech is still gummed up but it functions. Once I feel well enough to deal with the humidity (TX, YOU'RE WET & SHIIWEATY) I'll get out there and tighten everything back up and put the sound deadener back into everything and get it buttoned back up.

I was thinking about mounting my axe & maybe a small shovel inside my back hatch with quick fists until I saw the issues the extra weight was causing..

So my alternator is on its way out, and I'd like to do the Quest alternator swap. My first question is whether its a direct swap or not, and what I would need to do if not, and secondly, will it harm anything if I don't have any extra power draw from stock? I never understand wiring and electronics in cars lol

Shouldn’t hurt anything if you’re loads don’t increase. In fact, having extra ampacity is actually better because the alternator won’t work as hard. But as for the swap itself… haven’t heard of a quest swap. But I spend more time with a cleaning rag and a bottle of windex in my hand when working on my Xterra than a wrench.

Quest swap is fine. I think there are some models that have a nub that needs to be filed down, but I believe all the connections are fine

I just replaced all four rotors and pads along with new leaf packs and can't get rid of the SLIP, ABS or VDC Off dash lights.. I've disconnected the battery but no luv..

Will Radflow 2.0 emulsions work with my ~3" of lift out back? I've got the bil 5100s for 1-2" s of lift on them now and just went from the nistec 2" shackles on highest setting and stock leaves to a 1" lift leaf pack from OME & shackles @ 2"..

Thx in advance

Since we were talking about alternators earlier, does anybody know if the stock alternator in the 2nd Gen frontier can handle a 30A DC-DC charger?

Is there something special about OME leafs that they don’t work with non OME AALs, or is it just a marketing thing?

Thinking of using the rest of my amazon GCs to go that route, but would be wanting to remove overloads and use one of the leafs from my current 4x4parts AALs with it.

Well I can't really say . I did however add the OME AAL to make it heavier and with the longer center pin I think I could add another.

Has anyone installed the adjustable sway bar end link's on the front ?? Wondering how much should I open them up ??
I drive too fast on the road not to keep these on the front end . I'm still debating removing the rear swaybar : I'll probably unhook one end and leave in place for a week or two to see if the handling differ's too much for the road .

Did Smittybilt at some point make a rear swing arm bumper for the X?
The pics are too small for me to get a good look.
Not smittybilt. That dealership isn’t the one who bought my truck from me. The front and rear are Shrockworks. The rear diff rad and gas tank skid are as well.
Word anyone looking - I traded that truck in and the suspension needed a full rebuild. The shocks and the ucas were shot.
I would offer them 8 at best unless they will
Rebuild it for you.

I was wondering if they just saw an “S” and assumed the wrong thing.

I’ve always been curious if a smaller dealership like this would sell individual parts if you made the right offer. I tried doing it for sliders with a couple larger dealerships (even offering stock steps) but no dice.

Probably not enough money in it for them. They’d have to replace with OEM if they parted out things like bumpers and stuff. Then it just becomes another high mileage Xterra that may not sell without the cool toys hanging off it as it sits.

I feel like there’s a way to DIY something like this for much cheaper… or am I just dreaming? https://rotopax.com/jeep-tire-mount.html

A lot of reviews I’ve read have talked about having to mod it. And if you’re going to mod it, why not just try to build it in the first place. Only tricky thing is not being able to weld. I wouldn’t even need it to be adjustable once I get my actual measurement. Just two plates, holes drilled in the right place, and something strong to connect them. Threaded gas pipe maybe?

Or I guess I could try and find a fabricator to weld two plates to a shaft and still come out a lot cheaper than $100.

Yeah so what they're doing is passing the bar through the hub of the wheel. Which is great. But there's 1000s of jeep wheel out there which might have the same inner hub diameter to make them all work but different outer hub diameter so this thing has to be modified. Yeah. Build your own.

It bolts to the spare tire mount so as long as you have a 5 lug pattern (YJ, TJ, JK, JL, ect) you wouldn't need to mod it.

Where we would is our 6 lug pattern. But with no welder and no powder coated, $98 pretty much pre-fabbed and only have to drill a couple extra holes to get it on the 6 lug pattern, I don't think it's a bad price.

Here’s a perfect example of what the dumb question thread is for - where I don’t want to make a thread to highlight my f-up.

I washed my AEM filter yesterday. Had it in front of the fan with low humidity, then brought it inside the house overnight in front of the vent. Thought it was dry this morning and it obviously wasn’t. Engine died and I have foam all through my intake. I took it apart to this point and wiped out all the foam I could.

How screwed am I? I’m going to leave it for now to hopefully dry out, but I’m wondering if it would be better to dry the intake (I have a standby paper filter I should have just used) and try to burn out the rest instead of leaving it sitting wherever it landed in the cylinders or wherever.

That's gonna evaporate pretty quickly once the engine reaches operating temp. With the humidity as high as it is right now, it'll take a long time to just naturally dissipate though.

I doubt there's enough water in there to actually damage anything. Just a mild steam clean of the cylinders.

But this is just another reason I run an AC Delco paper filter. Toss the old one, drop in the new and go.

You will want to clean your MAF REALLY good though.

I left it apart to dry today and stole the wife’s car. Picked up MAF sensor cleaner spray on the way home and hosed it down more than I probably needed. After it was dry I left it out in the sun and breeze for about another half hour. Put everything back together and it started and ran like normal. No issues at all. Hopefully it stays that way.

Front brake dust shields - are the needed? Finding conflicting info online. Anyone been running without them long term?

I would advise you run them. For all the reasons you’ve read suggesting that you do. Don’t run without them. They were put there for a reason. Hence the name dust shield.
