LEDs. Lots of LEDs.

I'm gonna edit this post with the current lighting I've got going on.

So. With the exception of the headlights/fog lights I'm slowly working through a full LED conversion. Every bulb on the entire truck. A few reasons. Updated looks, enhanced brightness, lower power consumption, & never having to replace them. Ever.

Here's what I've got so far.

- Front & rear turn signals (w/ LED compatible flasher)
- 3rd Brake light (Hella FF75 w/ red H7 bulb mounted to dephep rack, stock 3rd brake light is empty)
- Reverse lights (+ 4 LED square Dually style lights. 2 on the dephep and 2 in the rear cornees)
- Dome lights (6K)
- Interior turn signal indicators
- Front corner markers
- License plate lights (6K)
- JW Speaker Model 90 LED headlights mounted in the fog light locations on my RLC bumper

Most of my bulbs have come from http://www.vleds.com while they are a little pricey, I have yet to see a better constructed and brighter replacement LED.

Minus the stockers since the truck was off when I took the picture.

I've been working on replacing the dash bulbs with LEDs for a while. I'll post some pictures of that once I have some results.

I was having trouble seeing out the back when reversing at night. I went through 4 versions of LEDs to finally decide on the Cree version. They are super bright. Since I did that I also replaced all the interior lights with LEDs. That is all I have done so far.

I have Reverse LEDs, full interior LEDs, License plate backup LED lights, Raptor LEDs, and 20" LED lightbar.

Got a quite a few LEDs to be put on sometime soon.

It's official. Every light bulb from the drive seat back is LED. The only thing left are the front indicators and dash lights.

I did the main brake lights over the weekend using these:
http://www.vleds.com/bulb/3157-red.html

And they are stupid bright. Combined with all of the other LEDs I've installed in the past few weeks, I'm very close to giving a big middle finger to the incandescent bulb.

I used these LED's for the brake lights - they actually get brighter when you step on the brakes, which is something I have not been able to get functioning. I got them at O'Reilly. They are JamStrait 3157R's. Cost me $16.99

Hey Prime, do you know if the H3 LEDs from vleds are the same size as halogen H3s? From what I've seen the base is how a lot of companies determine what type bulb it is but the bulb itself can vary a lot from it's halogen counterpart. I ask because I have some lights I'd like to convert to LED but some have pretty limited space and two have very limited space. Thanks.

I have LED h3's that I got from road warrior who got them from prime I believe. they seem to be the exact same size as my halogen h3 bulbs.

One of the pairs that I sold to Roady was the VLEDs. And they were the shorter pair. It seemed as though they were still longer than a standard halogen as Roady was unable to get them into his Hella 500s

Hmm. Hella 500s is one of the places I wanted them and some other lights are even tighter. The lights in my bumper are a little bit deeper so maybe I'll order a pair and see if they fit anywhere then order more if I can use them. Thanks for the information.

Don't quote me. Check with him and see if he tried the shorter bulbs in the 500s. I know he was trying to fit the longer bulbs with much tribulation.

As of my HID headlight mod the only remaining incandescent bulbs on the truck are the dash illumination bulbs.

Every single bulb on the exterior of the truck is LED. Except the Xenon headlamps of course.

K. Cause the manual lists them as 3057K/3157K, just wondering if they just forgot the C, or they add a C to that number.

I have a question with all this LED talk...how do I know what bulbs are compatible with a first gen? And if I were to convert them to LED, is there anything special I need to do such as wiring or is it just plug and play?

The only special thing you need is an LED compatible turn signal flasher. The factory flasher is load based. So as the halogen bulb heats up and draws in its 10w of power, the flasher uses that a s a gauge for how fast to alternate flashing. The draw is so low on all the LEDs that the factory turn flasher will cause the lights to blink extremely fast.

Aside from that, all of this is plug and play.

My one bit of advice, don't buy cheap bulbs. You'll regret it. Spend some money on bulbs that will last and be ridiculously bright. That's the whole point of doing this kind of swap anyway.

There's a guide in the 1St gen section.

I personally doubt I'll replace the turn signals with LEDs since they aren't used enough to matter for the current draw with the other lights on......with that said....I'll probably end up doing it anyways.

I have leds in the gauge cluter of my dodge and they started flickering/going out one by one. HOLY CRAP that is annoying as hell. I believe there are 8 bulbs in that cluster and 3 are totally out and 3 flicker on/off. It is like a mini-rave in my dash

I see a lot of potential for led headlights, cooler and less draining on the battery with comparable lumens

Indeed. I went a few weeks back to an electronics store, they had some LED bulbs, so i bought a pair for the brake lights and installed them. They were worse than the regular incandescent bulbs, like really not good at all. So a few days after I brought them back and when I told the sales rep that they were worse than my regular bulbs, he looked at me like I was an idiot. Just cause they were LED doesn't mean they are brighter. I went to superbrightleds.com first, and couldn't decide, didn't know which I wanted and which was brighter and the rating in lumens means nothing (it's heat, not brightness), so in frustration I put that off for the time.

Well Friday my alternator decided to charge at 18v and I blew my headlights, tail lights and 3rd brake light. Also my parking lights have been burnt for quite a while, so figured this was the time to do LED. I did more research and ended up at vleds.com as well. I've got new bulbs ordered Friday, all but the signals, and will be ordering an HID kit this week to replace my Silverstars.

get some projectors for those HIDs unless you wanna be "that guy" blinding everyone

I'll be that guy for a bit, but I've got too many things on the go, and I'll wait until the summer to do that project when the car is on the road and I have time to work outside and mod it, rather in this mix rain/snow/cold weather.

I have a friend who had HID's in his X for years (10 years and switched to a Jeep last year I believe it was) and he said he had no problems blinding other drivers with his Hi-Lo HID kit, so I'll take it one step at a time.

It's not an inconvenience for you it's an inconvenience for other drivers but to each their own I guess. Projectors look sick too

It's not about what I want to do, but what I can only do with what I got. I'll determine where the projector sits in terms of priority once they're installed and how much of it's an inconvinience they are to others. I've already gotten flashed many timeswith my Silverstars, but my alternator rebuild+HID+LED this month wasn't cheap thanks to a faulty regulator that blew my exterior lights (fortunately just that, but maybe my alarm too, but i'll check it out this weekend) and I put off doing LED signal lights for the time because of cost ($150 on top of the $150 I had to spend for all the other lights) and it's unnecessary for the time being, and so is the projector lense. Considering I have only high beams at the moment, the priority is getting working headlights so I can drive at night.

That is true I meant no ill meaning when saying it. And I realize they aren't cheap especially when you gotta make your own unless you have a gen 2 then they aren't so bad.

Thanks for the info guys. I got my VLED's in today and I love them! Will have to do the side markers on a nicer day, but took care of all the rear lights (except signals)
