I wanna buy a new laptop. My 10 year old MacBook is showing its age. Do I buy another MacBook? Used of course, or some variety of windows laptop? If so which one? I need to run windows for work stuff, but that's easy enough on the Intel Macs.

What a cool concept. Unfortunately, not really suitable for my needs, as I need a discreet gpu. 3d and video work require a real gpu.

Try looking at Swappa.com You might find something worthwhile there. Another idea, if you want to stay Mac, is apple.com look for refurbished.
This is only the first design, I would expect more options when they get to gen 2. EGPU may be an option as well since it does thunderbolt

@Brunnie, I forgot that swappa did computers. I've sold a bunch of phones there over the years. The apple referb site is no place to get deals. That's for sure. haha.
I've found that CL is actually a pretty good place for MacBook deals. I did a stint a few years ago buying them on CL and flipping them on eBay. Made decent money.

So Teagan, my German shepherd / pit mix, was dubbed the groundhog killer years ago because he always gets one or two a year. Well now Anakin, Australian shepherd / pit mix, is now dubbed the field mouse hunter. He's gotten 3 in the back yard the past three days. More than fine by me. Keeps them from trying to get in the house with the season change.

Oh, i totally get it. Unfortunately eGPU is a hard pass from me. I want to be able to edit on the move, and having to lug around a large second device just doesn't cut it. My current laptop I got for free, and has dual gtx 560m cards in it. Believe it or not, it can still handle 4k footage with the gpus.
Makes me wonder if it can do 4k raw from the blackmagic cams. I might have to snag some footage from work and do a test.
