Ya'll should have seen the Rat killing spree I had in the back yard 2 years back..... I got 22 of the little ufckers in just over a week.... they were living in my neighbors back yard.....I can't think of a person here who would be offended by that......
Looks good. I've gotta do my brakes soon. Front pads are OK but want new rotors (209k on originals) and the rear needs Raybestos EHT and rotors.Figured I'd try it the new photo upload posting thing. Not bad, even I can do it. (Bit of a shock coming by today and everything looks different.)
Replaced both seized rear calipers, (tired of fighting with the 12yo slide pins), rotors, pads, all 4 hoses, and new parking brake hardware since it was all taken apart. Only thing not original with 170k was the rear pads. Probably gonna replace the steel line running above the diff soon. It's corroded pretty bad.
No ABS issues bleeding and topping up the fluid. Lucky I guess.
Took the picture before finishing up the hoses, but I know that doesn't bother anybody here. One of the hose bracket bolts broke so it'll need drilling out later. For now it's temporary secured the standard way.

Jesus man! I've replaced everything but the calipers 2X. I've only got 133k.....(209k on originals)
RIght? I replace brake parts like it's going out of style. Also, the designer of the 2nd gen brakes needs to be drawn and quartered. That STUPID RUBBER BOOT ON THE CALIPER PINS IS ufckING STUPID! I left them out the last time I did the brakes on the X. I couldn't get the lower pins out and had to replace the calipers.Jesus man! I've replaced everything but the calipers 2X. I've only got 133k.....
To be fair though, I replaced everything because I couldn't get them to stop squeaking.... and I had a seized E brake line... then I warped the rotors (Steel Bender will do that).... and I tow.... so..... nevermind.
Remember me... 4.10's and 4 lo... engine braking...... Towing I'm always using the trans for that..... my brakes got trashed from wheeling.(example) Steel Bender.... my brakes were gone right before the drop.... as is wouldn't stop my truck.... a very short while later.... a river crossing..... super hot rotors and a cold water bath. And like I said, I replaced parts because of brake squeal. It's not like we drive gently either, but we use the transmission to do most of the hold back. Years of heavy farm towing I guess?
I didn't think about this... I just put on new brakes (pads/rotors) Saturday and was hoping to go offroading (although on a fairly tame trail) this weekend. In between I'll only be putting maybe 100 miles on the brakes at most. Should I hold off taking it off pavement? Or just try to go really easy on it and stay out of the puddles when possible?a river crossing..... super hot rotors and a cold water bath.
This is a stupid hobby. The Drop.
Shall we all just switch to stamp collecting? This is a stupid hobby.
It is, but at least it's really expensive. This is a stupid hobby.
I nominate this for QOTW (quote of the week). It is, but at least it's really expensive.
but those damn slide pins...
Those caliper pins are the ufcking worst.
The first time I did the brakes on the truck I had to replace both front calipers because the lower pins were seized in place and wouldn't budge. I put them back together without the rubber on the lower pin.Sil Glide and a new set of rubbers...
You just have to make sure you put the pin that has the sleeve on it in the right place.... but you both know that....so....
What's the issue?
The old I have extra parts thing...I put them back together without the rubber on the lower pin.
Yup, sounds about right. Fancy special grease just for the pins, make sure the rubber is in place correctly, and.... another salty winter does what it always does.Sil Glide and a new set of rubbers...
