Im looking for the factory window tint information for an 02 xe. I have never tinted my windows and was handed a nice $120 fine from a cop with more bullets than brains. I plan to fight the ticket to prove a point and maybe get this guy to understand just bc he has a badge doesnt make him any less of a douchebag.

The meter went to 21,22,24 idk what that means seriously but Im sick of cops.

so did you get a ticket for your window tint? if that's what your asking every state has a there own set of laws on tint. for example california it's illegal to have any tint on your front windows but you can have the back as dark as you want. i've gotten window tint tickets and for us its 20 dollar fix it ticket.

Yeah the above link says:

Must allow more than 70% of light in in the front windows.

The rear any darkness can be used.

So according to the cops meter you have tint on your front that allows only 21-24% of light through and therefore it is not legal in the state of Iowa.

Perhaps you can take him to court and argue that his machine wasn't properly calibrated. I'd imagine just like radar guns the tint checker is inspected and signed off on a regular basis. Perhaps his tint checker hadn't been calibrated in a long time. Gives you a loop hole if your lucky. My buddy wiggled his way out of a ticket. Argued the radar gun was out of calibration. Went to court the cop never showed up, the gun hadn't been checked in along time and judge let him slide.

Otherwise have a shop print you up a "tint removed receipt" hand it to the judge.

"Your I honor, I bought the xterra and did not realize the tint was illegal, I had it removed days later and here's the receipt, my apologies"

Don't drive your X to the court, the Cop will be there and they may check.

I'm with xterror04 on this one. He should have only been checking the front door windows. They aren't tinted from the factory so if they are now, someone at some point had it done and may indeed be in violation. The back door and all rear windows are factory tinted and 50 state legal or Nissan couldn't sell them. I don't believe there's any way to remove the factory tint. If it was your front door windows that were checked, roll the window down just a bit and look at the top edge. If you can see an edge where window tint film begins it's been added to them. Factory tint is in the glass, not added to it. If that's the case your only options of getting out of it are to have the removal receipt like mentioned above or have the front door tint removed and replaced with legal tint and take that receipt to court. I've gotten a tint violation ticket in my state (TN) and it was dismissed after I had them re-tinted with 30%. I also found that having the tint removed can be as much as having them tinted, and some shops will waive the removal charge if you have them re-tinted. Good luck.

here in florida the xterra for tint purposes fall into a limo class. but ive only seen tickets given to the extreme tint jobs like 100percent mirrior or 100 percent black. never for a stock truck and i have 10 percent up front and 5 everywhere else.

Stock rear windows don't have tint. Its a glaze baked into the glass from the factory. If they measured your rear glass it would get you the 24% light transmission. But, according to Iowa law you can have any percentage of rear tint you want.
