I love my x but at 170k it's starting to show it's age. I'm in grad school and while I don't need to add to my current debt ratio I do need to know my truck will start when I need to get to class. I know how to fix most things on the x but sometimes I don't have time to do so.

Here is what I have been thinking about:
2014 tacoma i4 4x4
2014 tacoma v6 prerunner
Mazda 6 grand touring
Used xterra pro 4x

I'm leaning towards a taco because there have been so many things that have been too tall to fit in the x. All of these are within 1000 of each other. I'm unsure if I should get 4x4 or prerunner. Where I will be it snows 2/3 times lightly per year and it's flat. The prerunner has an LSD I believe. The mazda would be the best for mpg and I like the styling for a midsize car. I've always had a thing for x's but I can get a new tacoma access cab in 4x4 for the price of a base model x.

The PreRunner may have a electronic locker in the rear if it has the TRD package. The 4x4 would be great, but you will prefer the V6 taco IMO.

Well I'll look what is on the lot but basically I'd have to choose 4wd or v6. I think the TRD package starts a bit above my price range.

If it were me I would wait until your done with school to take on more debt

Ditto

I understand having worry free reliable wheels but those are some pricey choices too.

What exactly is wrong with your X? Are you able to do any of the work yourself?

Keeping up with the fluids and general maintenance, should keep that X going for another 100k miles.

Are you guys sure. That would save me a lot of money. My biggest fear is being in the middle of grad school and the engine blows up because then I have no trade in lol.

I also forgot to mention if I do get something new my parents are paying half. I bought all of my previous vehicles but they offered to help so that makes a difference too.

As long as you stay on top of the maintenance, 170k is nothing. With the proper maintenance, these trucks will run forever.

I'd wait to get out too. Thats coming from this guy who has bought/owned 5 vehicles since being out of high school (and still have two of them), so you may not take my advice seriously. Besides, make'em pay more as a graduation gift :D:

You read/posted in the 200,000 thread awhile ago. A few of us have 230k+ on the ticker (253,xxx here) and the engine purrs like a cougar. I'm missing out on a few luxuries, but my X is still a killer commuter vehicle for me.
