Wow. Just reading some posts on thenewx. More specifically one about a hitch in the exterior section. People are so quick to say use the search function. But man c'mon. I seriously dont think ill post over there again.

So glad i found this forum. Seems like all the good guys&girls are on here.

Yeah. They are getting to the point that they've been asked the same questions so many times, that the answer can probably be found in many threads there. Recommending the search function is nothing to be ashamed of, as it teaches newbies the ins and outs of how the site is laid out. But, a LOT of the folks there will "recommend" the search function in such a tactless way that it turns a lot of people away. ClubXterra was even worse, and it is a result of the administrators failing to set a proper example. In the case of TNX, its founder recently sold the forum to AG, and it may be more or less leaderless there since then. There are a lot of truly helpful folks on TNX (most of them are here too!) but the atmosphere can be different. I find here at XN, we are much more tolerant of new folks and their questions, and while the search function can help, its not always infallible. That's why, as the saying goes, we're here to help. That is the entire point of an automotive forum, is it not? :)

I heard the Sargent-at-Arms here is a BADMOTHER!!!! Betta shut ma mouf...

Ooooo, we have a Sgt at arms? Classy!
As J said, there is a time and place to recommend the search function, but it also means knowing what phrases and/or words to use is the hard part. I've definitely started threads on TNX after using the search function and lo and behold, I used the wrong words to find what I wanted, haha! Ah well, it's a learning curve.

I find if you use google>words or items your looking for > xterranation it turns up pretty much every thing your looking for.

We do not have the diys they do.. But we have only been around since oct2011.

The technical way to restrict Google to one forum is:

site:webaddress.com search terms here

Examples:

site:xterranation.org awesome xterra widgets
site:thenewx.org trailer hitch stuff
site:clubxterra.org is dave a post whore?

Okay that last one may have been uncalled for.....

I use TNX all the time, personally don't have any issues with them. They have too much 2nd Gen tech to ignore. I am on all the main X boards, all have their particular benefits and drawbacks.

I searched and then had to post something asking about an opinion and got flamed by the next person to post. Kinda pissed me off to be honest. But it is what it is. I'm over it. They do have a lot of good info. Just search and don't post. LoL

Or PM the helpful people.....it never hurts to do that. I get PMs all the time from that over TNX.

Yeah I've done it before. I probably shouldn't have made this post. Wasn't trying to single anyone out. Just that a lot of what I read so far on there and had happen to me is all about the search. Just caught me off guard. I'm used to people on forums being very helpful. Or more helpful should I say.

Its best to say that they are a little more lenient with language that can be misconstrued. I do genuinely like a lot of the people there, but it is easy to take some of things people say there the wrong way.

I have to say I am far more lenient over there with my language and throwing out the search word. I get annoyed when I see three post all on the new thread section that are the exact same thing. I do end up giving a few links then usually make the statement "If you need me to write a how to on how to search I will" then someone did so I just link that too.
