The only heat in the coop is a flourescent bulb and a heated water dish. And the coop is partial insulated. The big thing is having good ventilation so you dont have moist air in the coop when it is cold as that leads to frost bite on the birds. I also go the deep litter method on the shavings, so there is some heat from some composting action.
