Long story about the Virginia DMV. When I was in the Navy in school in Millington Tennessee right outside of Memphis I bought a car. Easiest way to get everything done was to get a TN license and register the car in TN. I go to the closest DMV walk in hand them my VA license and the title and am out in less then 30 minutes with a TN license, plates and registration.

3 years later I get out and move back to VA. After work I go to the DMV at 4pm to do the same. Despite not having a license long enough to have to retest the lady says I need to retake the road portion of the test, fine whatever I've been driving for 6 years no problem, right? Well the lady is pissed because its now 430 and they close in 30 minutes. She agrees to do the test but isn't happy about it. This DMV is by a school so literally 30 second into the test she tells me I'm speeding. I look down and I'm doing a little over 30 in a 35. I tell her the posted limit is 35 and she says "this is a school zone, you are always supposed to go the school zone speed limit regardless of the time of day". So as polite as I can I say "No you are supposed to go the school zone speed limit if the lights are flashing or its during the intake or release of students, schools been out for a few hours now. She lays into me and I let it go. Once we complete the test right at 5 she says "I should fail you for your attitude and speeding ina school zone but I'm feeling nice today so I'll let it slide".

Bitch seriously was ufcking with me because I made her do her job until her quitting time.
When I bought my GMC, I bought it in NC. NC doesn't require you to disclose the mileage of a vehicle that's over 10 years old so my paperwork didn't have the current odometer reading.

I walk in and start the paperwork and this old bat I'm dealing with has a damn fit over it. I calmly ask if I can just write the mileage in since I recorded it before we pulled off the lot and she refuses. Says I have to drive 5.5hr back so that the dealership can put 6 digits in the box. I was seething when I walked out of there....

We started an outage at work the next day so I drove my old K5 back and forth to work for almost two weeks on antique tags since the temp tags on my GMC were expired.

I had my wife write the numbers in on the title, walked in at quitting time and got a different teller that time. She didn't even question it, gave me a total and rushed me out the door so fast I didn't even have time to set their clipboard down.

I was at the tag office with the butterfly and some clerk tried that shiat. "well her name was alexis P Greer and she only signed Alexis Greer so you have to have her go fix it."

lady this car came from a state away.

Doesnt matter.

Oh, well she came with me today but she is leaving let me see if I can catch her.

Good.

*Kirk walks out, writes a letter p on the title, Kirk walks right back in and gets back in line. Estimated time, three seconds*

She glares at me, I glare at her.

Yes. Texas taxes you on the black book assumed value. If you paid 1500 and they think its worth 2500 you get taxed on 2500.
For the sales tax tho? Vehicles under 10 years old are assessed for plate fees based on book value. But sales tax is based in the actual money you paid.
