Of course had he done what he should have and informed someone where he was going and when he planned to return he wouldn't have had to cut his own arm off. I worked for FEMA for a number of years mapping flood zones and performing damaged property inspections. Reading a map and compass are a lost art nowadays. I'm not gonna lie tho, when the first portable laptop run gps devices hit the scene it made life soooo much easier.
