Simply amazing...this is the rig that set me in motion to remove my rear seats and create the power distribution/storage/tool box/AUX. Battery rear platform. I've refered to this build many times for ideas.

What, no pics of furry trail companions? :) Kidding. Having actually seen this rig and the trailer, I have to say it is truly inspirational in the Xterra world. The work you've put in to it shows. Great job! I especially like the photo of the trailer campsite set up in the snow, ahaha!

It's still silver. Just had a good friend who's a photoshop wiz sketch me up a few different idears I have floating around in my head.

Why narrow it down, start with number one and keep asking until you get all the answers you need. :)

Thanks for the complements everyone. It truly makes me feel warm and fuzzy that so many people like my rig. :)

Cheers,
JP

I've got a guy coming tomorrow to do a small wrap example for me for free. He was disappointed when the only thing I could think of I'd let him do was some flat black on my hood. I bet you could get a good camo wrap for not too much and it would help protect the X a bit.

It does make sense. I'm planning on making 35s fit with a 2 in BL. Slightly wider stance, might roll the fenders.

Next question. What year waggy axle did you use and why? (disc's up front are sweet, will have to look into that)

Would you recommend picking up a new rear axle (ford 8.8 or 9) if you are going to have to regear anyway? Would the price of other gears and lockers plus the axle be cheaper compared to regearing and locking the h233b? In your opinion.

Allow me to comment using my solid rear axle knowledge. Specifically, my Ford axle knowledge.

The 233B is an epic rear end for strength. Though it does have its downfalls. Lockability and drum brakes. The locker issue can be easily remedied. Though you only have ONE option. The drum brake issue, not as easily remedied, but still doable.

If you were going to swap it out, I would go no lower than a Ford 9". That is going to be the most comparable swap not only for strength but for the ability to customize. You can build a 9" in any configuration you want.

While the 8.8 in it's stock form with 31-splines is stronger and more stout than a D44, and is just as configurable as the 9", its just not as strong as the 9". And it certainly not at strong as the H233B.

The reason I ask about the rear and regearing is I also need to see what lug pattern I want to run, thus deciding my wheels, thus deciding my tires on the previous two selections. I still have a lot to decide and I plan on asking too many questions. So for those with knowledge, beware

Next question. You said that there are plenty of other options for rear axles. I know midget is running 3/4 tons, but that seems overkill for me. What else do you see fit?

And for 35s do you believe 5.13 gearing is optimal or should I go higher in case a sweet pair of 37s come up for sale?

Oh man...I currently collecting parts for mine. I traded my 06 X to my wife so I could take her 03 supercharged X and do a solid axle up front. Everybody has better questions than I do so Ill just read theirs until I come up with some of my own. Im going to try to look at all the sas setups I can at goneMoab this year and take some notes.

Do you think it would be worth it in the long run to redo the rear leaves and put a 3 or 4 link suspension in the rear? I know Edodrian was talking about it. How the front is stupid flexy and now the rear needs adjustment.

I hope I'm not asking you questions that are going to spoil your rear suspension surprise

Scratch that I have one. Im in need of new leafs. If you had to do it again would you go factory springs or custom made? Also what backspacing do you think you need to clear the brake lines while using 15s. Ive got some soft 8s with 4.75 backspacing. Id like to avoid a body lift if possible so I may end up just doing some fender massaging if it wont stuff.

You say factory leafs. But they're not 100% factory with travel like that. So share your secrets. What are you doing to the junk yard packs every two years?
