Upper is here as of Monday night.

Replacement springs came in, too, so I can finish assembling the lower (jacked one up assembling lower, so I ordered a spare set).

I'll post pics when I get home. I have it mocked up.

Parts left to buy:

Free floating hand guards (railed)
Sights
Barrel
BCG
Charging handle
Forward assist
Dust Cover
Gas Tube
Gas Block
Flash hider

The most expensive thing left to buy is the barrel and FF rails. The rest is under $100ea, most of it is less than $50ea.

So far, I have $209.89 in it, not including the replacement parts (springs, Magpul OD Enhanced Trigger Guard).

That's awesome. You'll have post pics sometime. My PSA barreled upper came on Monday. Can't wait to get everything together. Which spring did you jack up? I jacked up the rear takedown pin spring one, luckily I knew a guy that had spare parts.

The pivot pin. My dumb@$$ put the pin in without the detent and I screwed up the spring getting it back out of the channel on the pin.

very nice....

as a side thought, if you haven't already chosen your muzzle break/flash suppressor/flash hider, go look up the TTI Eliminator...it's about 1.5" long or so, but, very smooth, does a great job keeping you on target for follow-up shots

(I've got one on mine, and I can squeeze a pair of follow up shots off in under a second from the first shot and have all three still be in a 50 cent piece grouping at 125m firing 69gr match grade ammo, with cheap 62gr russian steel casing ammo it's got a little more spread but not enough to worry about)

they run about $90, so, not one of the cheap ones, but, very much worth it in my opinion....the only down side I've found is, you will *NOT* be firing without ear protection, and anyone in a firing line beside you but behind your muzzle will **HATE** being at your side. if they're close enough that brass being ejected can hit them (within about 4-5') they're close enough that the redirected gas/shockwave will piss them off after the third or fourth round.

you ever decide on what color furniture? I've got a Magpul MOE OD Green stock that I won't be using. Commercial spec though, not sure if you are using a com spec or mil spec buffer tube.

EDIT: just read through your parts list, I see you have a Mil-Spec buffer tube, looks like it won't work :(

nice! thats pretty neat they are doing that. I bought a FDE Magpul from amazon and the place sent me ODG. They told me to keep the ODG and they are sending a FDE. Figured I would give a member a good deal if it would work, because I remembered reading you tossed around the idea of OD.

After reading these two articles, I've nixed the Carbine length gas system idea, since I'm going to run a 16" barrel. Now to find a new barrel....

Keep in mind they are talking about rifles with a traditional FSB, front site block. If you are running a rail it's really a moot point as the rails length, not the gas system length, is going to determine the site radius because the gas block will be under the rail. Unless of course your plan is to run a traditional FSB and a rail. Both my carbines are identical in sight radius but one is a carbine system while the other is a mid length system.

Can you find a barrel with the holes drilled for the taper pins ready to accept an FSB? I have two FSB's and the taper pins to install them in my spares that will never go back on a rifle, one is yours if you want it.

Nismo, whatever you do, do NOT get a barrel with an A2 style front sight pre-attached. Go for removable sights, they're far more versatile.

Sometimes yes, sometimes no, I've seen a couple that use a funky set screw system that essentially only works with that mfgr's gas blocks or the cheap/ghetto clamp style...

you can remove that front sight and put a gas block with a rail on though, cant you?

You can but if the standard FSB bothers you that much install a low pro gas block and a rail that is long enough to cover the gas block and run a BUIS. That or run a shorter rail or standard furniture with PRI flip up sight instead.

I've run the LaRue set screw low pro blocks, the Noveske set screw block, and the PRI clamp style FSB with no issues on different rifles for thousands of rounds. With the set screw blocks you have to dimple the barrel with a jig and you install the set screws with Rockset and they are fine. Plus most of the time they are installed under the rail so an impact rattling them loose is not gonna happen.

I bought the bolt before the massacre in CT...it just now got here. Parts are SERIOUSLY hard to come by right now. Price gouging is running rampant. There are only a few places online that actually have parts, but they're at astronomical prices. Karen was going to try to buy some parts for me for Christmas, but I had to tell her not to even try because of the gouging/empty stock.

I found some Magpul furniture today that wasn't surprisingly overpriced. Best of luck with this build in the upcoming weeks/months.

Yeah it sucks. I'm not going to get political in here but that massacre in my mind shouldn't have an effect on the whole gun industry.

Pmags are either impossible to find or afford now. Any kind of gun accessory is out of stock. And I can't find .223 or 5.56 anywhere. Glad I got my AR and a couple mags before this happened.

Good luck to you on your build, looks like its going to be sweet. If I decide to get another AR down the road (if I can that is) I'm going to build my own too.

Thanks. Luckily, I got 2 20rd pMags before the CT event..even managed to get some ammo. I still need the other half of my rifle. At this point, I just want to finish it, then I can worry about my "wish" list of parts. Still gonna go with midlength 16" 1:8, but not free float it until later on. Just that alone will save me $100.

Nis...I might be willing to sell ya a 16" 1:9 with gas tube and moe foregrip too...I'm getting ready to order a 20" heavy barrel and a free float grip.

I don't have the money for it. We're just now getting close to caught up from where I got laid off. Thank you, though.

Unless it was free to a good home, it just wouldn't be possible right now. Believe me, I'd take it off your hands if I had the extra.

I've heard nothing but great things about them. I've been spending some time on the 3 Gun forums and they come highly recommended.

They hold their accuracy, so that sounds like a good deal to me.

true...but, I want accuracy beyond 500m, and I've never personally seen a 3gun setup to shoot more than 50m, so, unfortunately, the difference between their idea of "holding accuracy" and mine aren't the same, cause a slight flaw throws a round off way more the farther you need it to go....

Anyway..

Finally found some parts in stock. Just ordered a "cheap" barrel that was on my short list, but without FSB. Also snagged a NIB MOE Middy hand guard for less than MSRP shipped, but it's black. I REALLY wanted OD, hoping to trade it at some point for an OD one.

Still searching for:

BCG (I have bolt assy already)
Sights
Charging handle
