Lokka Locker "Customs Fees" definitely a hidden fee

So last night my wife sends me a pic of a bill from TNT Express for 37 bucks. Apparently it was a second notice for due payment. First of all I had never even heard of TNT Express so I Googled them and came to the conclusion they were a courier service. Pretty much a poor man's DHL. So today I give them a call, and it takes three times to get through to a human being.

Apparently when I ordered my locker (December I think? Whenever the sale was) there was a Customs fee not covered in the cost or S&H. This company was apparently tasked to get it from me. Well after explaining my situation (deployed, wife not the best at sorting mail etc.) they were quick to drop the fee (or in their words, cover the fee). The customer service was helpful and friendly, and they explained that when buying overseas to ask the vendor if they cover Outside Country Duty Charges, also known as DDP or Free Domicile. Apparently it isn't applied to everything, and hasn't anything to do with weight of value, but material.

Anyways, I just haven't read anything like this on the Lokka threads and just wanted to throw out a "The more you know" kinda thing.

I'm still okay with using it, and I've talked to a few that has installed it and so far they seem happy with it. Honestly they locker may of even came with paper work stating this extra fee, or it could of been in the fine print of the purchase. When it arrived the Wife just tossed it on the Xterra shelf in the basement. I was just unsure if anyone else had issue with it.

yeah it was a surprise. Definitely a hidden fee in that you aren't expecting it. The money doesn't go to Lokka...it goes to the courier service...but it goes to the courier service because they already paid the US customs or whatever fees are associated with bringing it over here.

Makes sense, but wish there was a heads up about it...

(I mean I got the thing in 5 days after ordering,USPS can't hardly do that across the state)

I keep expecting to get one for mine, but I havnt. I was one of the first to order so not sure why I havnt seen anything from them yet.

I was totally okay with paying it, I just wish I had known about it. I mean when I called them, I had no idea what the charge was for, or even really who they represented. I also think I was flustered cause it was "past due" as initially my wife thought it was some junk mail.

I agree with Frogstar, for going more than halfway around the world, the shipping was incredibly, awesomely fast.
