So.. My best friend, brother, of 35yrs and I have a one up type of gifting tradition going once a year for either Christmas or bday. I found out tonight he ebay'd me a knife from my birth year. A Case XX bicentennial double eagle. I'm not sure what he gave but the hunt is on for a great gift this yr.. I don't have it yet but these are some shots he sent me. It'll come with COA, presentation box and sheath.
This is the only place i have to brag. Screenshot_20220923-202232_eBay.jpgScreenshot_20220923-202245_eBay.jpgScreenshot_20220923-202252_eBay.jpgScreenshot_20220923-202307_eBay.jpgI'm stoked!

Thanks, I'll have to take more photos when I get home. It has a brass guard. Handle material is stabilized green maple, brass, green micarta and ebony. I used fancy decorative pin material.

So what was that other sheath maker you mentioned you liked @TerryD ?
I'm talking with Rusty Blades and JouFoo doesn't make what I'm wanting. Kydex is nice but I'm really thinking a leather dangler this time.

This is harder than it looks. I've realized even with gutting the cord I should have ordered a smaller gauge. 550 is pretty big for a lanyard..

What are you using for your lanyards?
I mainly used 550 in the past. I can grab my callipers and give you a diameter once i get home from work. Ive also used microcord for smaller intricate designs

Ok. The lanyard that I have on my esee 4 is 0.5” at its widest( 550 cord with the internals that was measured at one of the lanyard knots just before the snake knot starts). The micro cord I use is 1/16” diameter

So.. for 1075/1095 blades, how do you guys maintenance them? I was looking closely at a couple of my Esee's I carry frequently and am noticing slight rust on the sharpened edge.

Since then I've been cleaning, drying and wiping with REM oil. Is that good enuff?

I strop them. If I need to put something on them, I use frog lube and set it with a hair drier. It's food safe and does wonders. I have a carbon Mora I coated 4-5 years ago. Used y it for tomatoes and camp cooking regularly and it's still rust free.

I was worrying about the oil and food. Didn't realize frog lube was foodsafe! Damnit, another list item..

Set with hairdryer. Never heard that either, better than just wipe on, wipe off I take it?

Never owned or watched anyone strop anything either. Is that something I need or just another way to hone?

Frog Lube needs heat to liquefy and set in the metal pores. That's why they want you to fire a gun till it's warm after using it.

I also used it on my CR2.5 and it's never rusted either.

Yes. Easy to make.

Glue some scrap leather to a piece of plywood, rough it up with some fine sand paper and then load it with your chosen compound. I like the basic black and green on a two sided strop.

I'll try to get a picture of mine tonight.

Bought a Spyderco Bow River from BladeHQ earlier this month and it broke while hopping off the golf cart. Just got a lil bound up on the seat bracket and snap! They're refunding me. 8Cr13MoV..20221027_123303.jpg

Right?! I got on the mfg website and they don't take returns on used equipment but after the email to BladeHQ they're paying for shipment back and a full refund.

Might be the 1st and last Spyderco I purchase.
Holly shiat

what does the grain structure of that blade look like?
