The Badlands wireless controller works with the old Smittybilt winches, since the plug was female and the remote was male. At some point Smittybilt made the plug male and the remote female, so that sucks.

It's a fairly simple install once you decipher your winch's solenoid wiring schematic (thanks Jay).
Schematic
For my winch, blue from the plug is in. Brown from the plug is out.
Installation
Start by removing the control box cover Remove the 2 screws holding the plug on to the cover and remove the plug to make it easier to work
Snip the blue and brown wires
Strip both ends and reconnect together
Feed the wireless controller wires through the plug hole from the bottom.
Strip the white and yellow on the wireless module and connect them to the blue and brown like this:
Yellow to blue
White to brown
Feed everything back through the plug hole and resecure the plug.
Connect the red power and black neutral wire from the wireless receiver to the power and neutral lug on the solenoid, respectively.
Secure receiver to control box with double sided tape
Close it all up, reconnect everything and test!

Success!!
Bonus: you can still use the wired controller if you need too.
There doesn't seem to be any more lag with this unit than with the wired remote.
