Got a gas mileage Question for Everyone.

I recently put a complete OME 2 inch suspension lift on my 2010 X and I have noticed a big drop in MPG. I am unsure of the exact MPG but I was getting close to 300+ miles before my fuel light was coming on and now I am barely getting 250 and my light is on...after many many tanks I am also convinced that my gas burns off faster if I am not wearing a seat belt. This is probably nothing and I thought I was crazy but after a long time of collecting data I am a believer. But I am still losing MPGs. All that changed was the lift. Still stock tires and such. They are next on my list but I really don't want to lose more. I traded to the X from a V8 pickup but now it's not much better then my truck. Please help. I have checked many things but am open to suggestions. Anyone else have this issue? Thanks!

Generally speaking, a lift is going to affect your mileage. Your aerodynamics have changed; much more air is flowing underneath the truck compared to before. A drop of fifty miles per tank is about 2.5mpg (just an estimate, based on the 17 gal tank), and that's a bit more loss than I'd expect, based on what I saw with a 2" lift on my 2008(≈1.5mpg). The only certain way to get it back is to remove the lift.

After I put a 2" lift and 285s on my X my mileage dropped drastically. At this point I am lucky if I get 220miles/tank. I've learned to live with it and try to save money to pay for performance mods after I finish getting the off road mods I want, haha.

A volant can help if you can manage to drive easy, problem is they sound great and it make you want to lay I to the throttle and hear it

Did you get an alignment done after the lift was installed? If you did not this could also contribute to it a little. But generaly speaking. You will see a drop with any aftermarket bolt on kits from lift to bumper to skids and such. You also have to remember with a bigger v8 engine in your old vehicle stock you have bad gas millage but when you add stuff the power of the engine can compensate. With our smaller engine it strains it more and you will see more of a drop then you would with a V8.

Man, I keep forgetting about the winter gas that a lot of you guys have to deal with. AFAIK, we don't get different seasonal formulations here (Gulf Coast) because of our really mild winters. To the OP, that could account for a fair percentage of your loss of mileage.

I think I'm averaging a bit over 15mph around town. Got just over 14 on the trip to Moab, but I was weighted down quite heavily and doing around 78-79mph the entire way. If I were to slow it down to around 65-70, I'm pretty sure that'd go up a bit.

Hefty bumpers, NX rocks sliders and skids, 33" MT/Rs, and a 10K winch sure as hell aren't helping.

Lucky you. When I go to Florida in the winter I can get back home with one less fill up than going there just because I get so many more miles out of the gas when I fill up there before heading back.

I don't have a lift but I'm pretty sure I've lost gas mileage lately.

X nerds unite!

And now that I have a lift and went on a little trip I can pretty much say I'm getting around 15-17 mpg highway with a 2"lift, hefty bumper, dephep rack, and nisstec sliders adding weight.

I seem to get 15.3-15.4 no matter if I'm on the freeway at 80 MPH or going up and down the mountain every day.

busted sliders

wait, how the hell did you bust your sliders?!?

as far as MPG's, if you lifted and went to bigger tires, go get your motor tuned. there's a LOT more power to be tapped without changing parts on the VQ40DE. I'm running KM2's and drive like my X is a drift car and normally pull about 14-15 in town, and anywhere from 18-28 highway....(averaged 24 going to and from Iowa last trip) no lift yet, but, I'm not too worried there...I'll go to 33's and probably not jack with a lift at all, since it won't make that much of a difference in offroading capabilities....

Stock im getting around 16. Mostly in town driving. Also make sure your fluids are nice and clean. Meaning that the transfer case and differentials have been maintained correctly. I noticed an improvement once I swapped out my fluids. The old stuff was fairly nasty. Replaced with amsoil and milage went up about 1 or 2 mpg. Was getting about 14 in town.
