Floor shifter hot as a furnace.

Anyone have any ideas as to fixing the heat coming up from the trans tunnel? 5 speed. Only happens on hot days but man heat comes up through the floor. Even the shifter itself gets hot. I know my floor boot is some what torn up like all of them are. Any ideas on patching the tears? Haven't priced one yet but I imagine the cost being silly. Might try some tire patches and household insulation.

I'd think you could grab one out if a junk yard?

Also I'm not sure how it would hold the heat down but bed lining the floor could be a good idea!

Do they sell a thermal wrap of some type? Like a foil backed sticky material that you could put on there, almost like a space blanket? To keep the heat down..

Yeah I guess when I think about it. I did remove all of the exhaust heat sheilds as they had rotted. Also installed a set of headers. I had layered out some reflectix mylar insulation under the carpet but missed the shifter as I didnt want it to make noise. Perhaps the cats create a inferno of heat under the truck. Heat rises and the shift boot has holes. That heat is also not good for the transmission. I wonder if a header wrap product can be used to wrap cats. Best option would be to just get rid of them. But, costly.

Thanks was that the upper isolator or the bottom? The one with the accordion boots? Thinking I should just order one.

Umm, put the heat shields back on (or get new ones since your old ones are toast.) They will solve 98% of your issues. :)

Cheers,
Josh

Yeah perhaps I should look into getting replacement shrouds. Maybe I'll try some header wrap first as its cheap.

Do you have a trans cooler?

Its a 5 speed so no.

Header wrap also holds moisture in the exact place that you do not want it to. While it works well in hot rods, and race cars, it is kind of tough on stuff that you take out in the woods, and get wet on occasion.

Just a thought.

Yeah I was thinking that as well. I guess I figured at the normal 1300ºF opperating temp moisture would steam off. But, that does nothing to the dry crusty salty crap it will pick up come winter. I guess I could get new shrouds. They appear as though they are $65 or so just for the tin halves. New cats would be way to much money. Guess I need to call up the dealer I get a discount through to see what actual prices are. Totally unfun to install but well gotta.
