Finally finished building my custom tube bumper. I am now in the process of painting it but I am very happy with the way it came out. It will eventually house a winch but in the meantime will sit as is.

Here are some pics that I have now.

Right now it's in the garage drying but the cold weather has slowed things down. Hopefully with the heater in the garage I will be able to mount the bumper today or tomorrow.

The bumper looks great and homemade to boot. The only concern I have w/ tube bumpers is your radiator's lower section is left uncovered/unprotected for the most part to airborne debris. How much more weight would be added if there was a plate for protection? How much does It weight now?

Not much more weight but I just hate plate bumpers. Plus when the winch is on it then the radiator is protected just as much as with the stock bumper if not more. It would have to be a serious airborne projectile to damage it anyway.

Bout time I see some more Xterra's with a decent stinger on them. I've always liked stinger bumpers for some reason. Nice outcome on it all.

I will agree though....UGA, come on...Y'all will be Gator Bait this coming season!

I think I see where you would put the winch plate or drill your own holes. Kool!!!

I've already made a plate section I'm just waiting until I choose a winch to finish it all because I want the holes to match the winch.

I always liked stinger bumpers too. Thanks.

We've enjoyed stomping gators for 3 years now I see no reason not to go for 4. Haha

You only get 3! Our turn. Personally I don't Rival the UGA/UF as much as the UF/FSU. I can't stand them.

Haha we'll see. Yeah I never really hold UF as a rival anyway usually the big game for us is to beat TN but that hasn't been trouble lately so I always look forward to playing LSU and GT

That's because UF's football program has been in the Sh*tter the past 4 years, lol. I don't think they were anyone's rival this year...
We did beat KY and TN and AR, though! Then you know....lost EVERY game after that...
*Praying for next year just not to lose to Vandy!*

True I was even a little disappointed in UF and I'm not even a fan. But I have no real room to talk because even though GA went 8-5 they still performed poorly just barely winning a few games and when our QB got hurt they really began to suffer....

Next year we should be bouncing right back though.

Looks nice!

What sort of tubing did you use?
Can you show close up photos of where the bumper attaches to the frame? (only reason I ask is that my custim bumper, once I added a winch and used it to get pulled, almost ripped the bumper off due to how it attached to the frame. I'll see if I can find the pics of it for you.)

HEre they are:

Close up driver side (see bumper on left tearing the mount away from frame near center of photo):

Close up pass side (see tear):

Just make sure to lay down an extra bead or so on both the inside and outside of the mounting plate to the frame to give it extra strength.
And if you already did that, then you're smarter than I was! :)

Kind of hard to tell what I am looking at. Did you use the stock mounting holes and bolts??

I'm not exactly sure if Gen 1 bumper mounts are the same or close to Gen 2's, but my bumper was mounted to a plate attached to the front of the frame. Not stock bolts. Cannot recall is stock holes. I'm not home right now otherwise I'd edit the pics better for you. I'll see what i can do when i get home (if i remember, haha).

Sorry!

I don't have a pic of mine now but basically I fabbed some plate up and then drilled holes completely through frame and put in some hd bolts
