The funny thing about the Revolvers, is that they open up a lot of possibilities for taking the travel a bit further with each option....its like a slippery slope.
Kind of like when they call marijuana a "gateway drug", and a PML is a "gateway mod"....
I ran Bil 5100's with them, and it was good, but could never get them fully open, so I knew I could get MORE...
...and I ran that way for quite a while...but, my Revolvers were STILL not fully open, calling to me, like a siren song.......
..So I swapped the 10" travel 5100's for bigger Bil 7100's....which was BETTER...but, the Revolvers were STILL not fully open, so, I knew i could get MORE...
...So I also I added the UB Skidderz, which raise the lower shock mount further from the rocks, but also allowed more downtravel...which was BETTER....
...but NOW the cross member was blocking the rear drive shaft from drooping fully, so, I had to gulley out the cross member to make a place for the drive shaft to droop down into...
...but, the raised lower shock mount meant I had LESS ROOM for COMPRESSION, and, coming down off ledges, etc, when I was crashing the bump stops, I was also over compressing the longer 7100's (Which were OK before the UB Skidderz...)....
...So, I broke both 7100's eventually from over compression....as well as breaking off the mounts from the UB Skidderz....and ended up running with NO rear shocks for a while...which was actually not a problem on the road, as the Revolvers smoothed things out so much, you wouldn't know I had no rear shocks..
...BUT, off road, especially on whoop de doo's, rock gardens, etc...I would pogo the rear end like crazy, as I'd be slamming down with no damping, and then bouncing back up, crashing back down, etc....my wife said it gave her shaken baby syndrome.
...So...To be able at this point to be able to both have full up travel, AND full down travel, I could not use the current shock mounts, and going to the too-low-to-the-rocks OEM point again was not going to work for me...
...So...I had to put an upper shock mount bar between the frame rails, and lower mounts on the axle itself, and make a new shock set-up with better geometry....and mounted some long travel Bil 5150's, which is what I have now, and life is good.
The nice thing is that if I didn't want to go through all of that, I didn't HAVE to...I could have had much better articulation and ride than the Calmini and SLR kits, and called it a day with just the Revolvers and 5100's, etc...as even a partially open Revolver with 5100's allows more travel than either of those kits, etc.
