That looks awesome, as posted on bookface.

Does your bumper have enough room on the mount to relocate and raise the front bumper?

thanks Tucker!
and yes it should, i have connections at a welding shop in my town so ill have em weld blocks on the frame horns and drill holes for the bolts.

thanks guys.

@Prime- bumper gap shmumper gap! lol :p

as of now its not a big deal for me yet. odds are it will be corrected hopefully when i go to XTF to have my tire carrier made (Nov-Dec). maybe sooner if a local welding shop in my town can do it for the right price.

hey everyone, BigJim here with some CV axle gore.

for over a year i have had no outer CV boot clamp on the passenger side. its been threw 2 wheeling trips and one winter on top of daily driving.
it only started to make noise on the trails this past trip after i got sand in it. sadly i didnt get any pics of the install, only the inside of the bad one. enjoy!
FYI, i plan on rebuilding this in the future.

Mmm messy. looks like some water contamination broke down the grease. The grease was once a bright yellow color. As far as rebuilding it would likely be cheaper just to buy one already rebuilt on ebay. Plenty of used ones can be had in the $40 shipped range. I figure used is fine, how often does the non enthusiast use 4wd? Not sure how much it would cost to source the bearings to rebuild it. Figure the boot kit is like $12-20ish alone. Its one of the messiest jobs you can do on the truck. I replaced a boot once... never again. Though it is a experience which you can learn from. The biggest issue for me was in order to replace the inner boot you have to disassemble the outer joint and boot to disconnect the shaft so you can slide the inner boot off the shaft. Do able but hands and tools completely coated it grease which makes it more difficult then it should be.

well rebuilding a CV is a dieing art in the field of servicing cars and trucks. thats why i want to try to rebuild it (for the experience), or at least take it apart to look at how much damage the thing really got.

Sup.
i have a few updates as far as future mods that I'd like to make public now.
#1- full Cooling system over haul.
what this means is that i will be installing the famed S/C Rad, new hoses, coolant flush, an external tranny cooler, and electric fan.
now, i understand this has been done to many Xterras before me...... HOWEVER, the electric fan will act as a back up for city driving and the possibility that the engine gets a little hot on the trail (Moab :p). how it will work is that it will have all the thermostat to turn on and off, but it will have a master on off switch in the dash. why? cuz imma keep the prop fan suckas! now before you all get up and arms on why im keeping it when i have the electric fan and what have you, i have my reasons. its a back up if the E-fan burns out. all my trucks at work have this set up and it works great, the E-Fan pushes in more air that the prop fan can pull in so i wont have to worry about burning it out that way. and just a reminder, that fan will only be running when i flick the switch on if it gets hot from driving in the city (witch is rare) along with heating up in heavy local traffic on a hot day, and on the trail if it needs it.
to add to this, do to the arctic temps that have pummeled the midwest the past month, today i noticed the one of the factory tranny lines is weeping a little bit. another reason why i need to get rolling on this project.
pics related.

moving on...

#2 Alternator relocation... ya thats right, RELOCATION!!!
the current prototype that me and my group of mad scientists have come up with is to sh#t can the AC compressor since i dont use AC and stick the Alt there. witch is about the same level as the air box, with that a bracket will need to be made for the Alt to take the compressors place (i got people for this), witch as of now is the hardest part. keep in mind, this is a prototype idea but no matter where, the damn thing aint gonna drag on the road no more! :)

#3 tire carrier, the same mad scientist who is making the bracket for the alt relocation will make me one, but that is further down the road.

thats all for now, thanks for stopping by!

Do your going to put a pusher fan in front of the radiator? There is not a lot of room in front, especially of doing a trans cooler and a fan, I was barely able to fit a 12" fan up front and it ended up blocking more air then it was pushing through, just good for thought

yes, it will be a front mounted pusher. I'll even rip out my AC condenser if i have to.

however, i understand that if i can not get the fan part the way i want it, then I'll have no choice but to take the prop fan out and stick the E-fan back there.

Kind of stoked to see how the alt relocation goes. That was a crappy move on Nissan to put it in the worst spot possible(I guess it was the only spot left, though). However I could never do it because I live on the Equator, (or so it feels like) I need my AC, haha. Good luck with the entire process, man. I'd love to do an Efan setup and just ditch the one that's in there now. Give me more room to work and it'd be more efficient, I think. Looking forward to see how this plays out.

S/C Rad. has arrived!

next on the list are new coolant hoses, longer tanny cooler lines to a true Ext. cooler and a Efan(s) with those thermostat adjuster thingys so i can dial in when i want it to kick on depending what the conditions are (one of my mad scientist can hook me up with one).

also, i got some metal for the tire carrier. i need a few more things and ill have everything i need for my mental blueprint and my mad scientist who shall create it.

thats all for now!

hey hey everybody!
just got back from wrenching on Ryoko at my Mentor's shop.
New SC Rad is in along with new hoses, tranny cooler lines, and a coolant flush. oh, and i put the skidrow skids on just cuz. then we got all the specs i need for a spacer adapter for my flex fan.
sorry i only took two photos, kinda hard to take pics when your hands are covered in coolant.

this is my old Rad, its about 1/3 the way clogged up. most of that mud is when i was stupid and new to wheeling and mud bogging with full size pick ups and jeeps from my old Uni. (never again :tears2:)
i tried to wash out the most i could after i learned more but the damage was already done.
after we took it out, i was surprized how thin the N/A rad actually is.... like holy hell nissan, wtf!?

next up, i got Tie rod ends on the way to pair up with my AC HD adjusts, then ill throw those puppies on and i can take a break from buying truck parts for awhile...... maybe. :)
