Bmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Many put it under the hood

LOL!

Mine is mounted under the hood behind the cruise control module. Though the shop that installed my locker fabbed a bracket to put it there.

As far as sound, Dave isn't far off. It sounds like one of those cheap cigarette lighter plug in compressors.

Mine makes more of a vrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr sound.:kewl:

It sounds like I have mine mounted in the same place that Prime has his; right next to the cruise control module. I had to move some of the factory wire routing but I was able to clear a nice space for it. There aren't many spots to pick from under the hood. I have a bunch of pics that I'll post up when I get my locker/re-gear write-up posted.

^^Funny you mention that... UPS should be delivering two Powertank systems to my front door tomorrow. Thank you, goneMOAB raffle! The upside is that I'm off work all week, the downside is that my surgeon put me on a ten pound lifting restriction so I'm not sure how I'm going to be able to unpack it all.

I have a few friends running their air lockers off of Powertank manifolds and they've convinced me that this is the way to go. I still want to have some kind of compressor as a back up but I'm making the switch to compressed CO2 in all of my trail rigs.

I guess I should have asked if it made a loud sound...LOL. Can't understand why you folks can't read between the words and/or my thoughts...sheesh!!!

I was thinking of installing it behind the drivers seat rather than under the hood because of the lack of space. However, a tank in the back sounds better.

Is there a minimum tank size/pressure needed? Is CO2 more expensive?

The locker requires 80psi I believe. Once it's locked it will hold the pressure until you turn it off. When I engage mine the compressor runs for about a second.

Cap'n Morgan has his compressor mounted near the passenger side rear speaker and it wasn't bad (loud) at all when we were wheeling in Moab last month. I guess it depends on the quality of the compressor though, Cap'n has a pretty nice one.

CO2 doesn't have to be expensive. Smittybilt makes a reasonably priced version and you can make your own for a little less than that. Google "DIY Powertank" or "CO2 system" and there are a gazillion forum threads out there that describe how to build one yourself.

Mine is mounted where the OEM jack was. inside the back of the truck, but under the floor. you can hear it cycle but it is not bad at all.

I know how much room is there. It's where all my power distribution is. I just didn't think it was deep enough for the compressor

Just had to lay it on its side, more room than you would think in there

Is there a pic or pics in your build thread? I'd like to see how you ran the hoses through the body and along the frame to the diffs.

Thanks for the pic. Now I guess my next question is: What is the end result long term cost wise? Pay the upfront cost of the ARB compressor w/ no addition cost VS. under $200 upfront cost of a DIY setup and the refilling of the tank when needed (CO2).

Can the tank be refilled by a conventional air compressor if not CO2?

No. Co2 is in the tank in it's liquid form, and boils itself off to form the compressed gas. Unregulated, it should sit right around 800 psi.

You could in theory use an air tank for lockers filled with just a shop compressor, but you would not have a whole lot of air.
