When I first got my Xterra XOC was the place to be for mods, posting , parts etc.

Then after other boards started up, it got stale, a place the newborn Xterra owners flocked to post "What size tire ?" posts. It went offline and came back...but never fuilly recovered.

Taking it's number one slot for Xterra owners was Clubxterra.org....my "go to" place for years. However we saw a deep schism as 2nd gen owners all flocked to "The NewX" many also posted simultaneously as myself on the NEXterra site. A few new sites emerged, some unsuccessful and some successful like "XterraNation " this site offered a refereshing style change and also seemed to keep both Xterra generation owners happy.

I took a few months off from the Xterra boards starting this past July. When I came back I almost didn't recognize ClubXterra....I hate to say it, but it is very very much like XOC was becoming toward the end of it's reign... tons of new people (not a problem if they get guidance and help) with posts that should be answered by FAQ's and /or deleted by mods such as "What size tire..."

It's a shame, as I loved the place and even am a lifetime member. But I am not getting replies to basic questions anymore, things that get replied to here immediately will sit dormant and unanswered there. It's almost like its an unmanned spacecraft in some ways, maybe undermanned? Some of the listed mods don't even seem to look at the site anymore.

A lot of my friends are still active mods there and I am not trashing the site. But there is still time to turn this around, if you need help, ask for it...there are many people who will do so. Also if people are listed as mods but havent been active on the site in many many months, is it time to remove and replace them? Kelly and Xterra Mike are the only ones I see actively post as mods there.

Anyway just curious who else is picking up this vibe?

I get exactly what you're saying. that's why I don't even really go on clubX anymore. I feel like clubX has a use for basic things and more maintenance and repair related stuff, where XN is more creative and has some different things. I rarely ever see anyone post on CX about building something custom or whatever. Not to bash CX because I still go there once in a while, and it definitely serves a purpose, just not my style really.

Lee I started this site because the "other" site I helped run was more about ad revenue... after issues with AG I decided that people who own Nissan should run a Nissan site..

I wanted site sponsors that work with our SUVs.. And to be honest I want a more social forum. Tech is only a quarter of why we love these SUVs.
Where does your Xterra take you..
And how was the part I liked more..

Anyways

The tire questions will never get bashed while I'm the owner of these sites.. It doesn't bother me that people ask them over and over... What we forum people seem to forget is that many people come to these sites for the first time.. They have no idea how they work and may not be computer savvy as we are. If we attack them for not understanding we are not helping the community and building it for the better....

I check out CX from time to time.. I have to stay active a little to help promote events.. WENTwindrock /nXm But I do see where you are coming from...

I'm trying my formula with other Nissans too..

www.frontiernation.org is now active and this spring www.titannation.org will be... I'm also planning www.jukenation.org and GTRnation..

Yes I am not bashing CX as I said I'm a lifetime member and two people I consider friends are Admins/mods...but it's not the same lately.

The tire questions were an example and honestly, there should be a FAQ to handle that --like a "getting started" or "So you wanna mod your X" page. I don't mean get mean with them--heck I asked the same questions and still ask questions some may consider basic because others who arent brave enough to ask will get their answer through my post. I credit Brooklyn X for forcing me to keep doing that :) anytime I ask him something he tells me to post it and he is right :)

Thanks,

Lee

I'm a lifetime member on club X as well but it has become a "graveyard" of people who only post once or twice and just overall isn't the same.

I still pop in every now and then and try to help answer those "newbie" questions.

But in the end XN is the place for me :hihi:

Nope Im just thinking out loud and seeing if I am the only guy who thinks things have changed there.

That's why it's in general discussion :)

XOC was my first and fav for many years (and crashes). I don't mind the same questions over and over, that's just gonna happen. I can't get over the spam lately.

Same, every now and then I go on CX. I've even messaged a few members personally. One recently regarding the noise my truck makes. He said, "Let me do some research on it" it's been almost a month since I've heard from him. I've had numerous people on here between Admins and New guys chime in with their $0.02 to help. Virtually no support on CX what-so-ever. I'm on XN full time now. It stays open on all my computers browser's haha. I even have the patience to have Tapatalk on my phone even though it's useless without WiFi because Sprint is garbage. I'll stand there and yell at it though to load a thread...

You guys here are the best, regardless if I've never met 98% of you in real life.

I agree that CX has turned stale. I don't know what XOC is so CXwas my first which holds a special place in my book. However with the new site design change and just lack of interesting posts, Mr Fauss invited me to check out XN. I like it over here more now since it isn't just technical help and more open. I, like others, pop in on CX to check out what is going on. I actually think I check the CX Facebook page now more than CX itself

Agreed, the mod/DIY section over there is excellent.
Was the first Xterra site I joined and learned a lot there. Didn't frequent here because my computer needed re-done and XN wouldn't load on it worth a crap (fixed now).
Having come from the off road Subaru world I've spent a lot of time on forums and don't mind answering newbie questions (technically a newbie here myself).
I sold my Forester (heavily modified) over three years ago and still get PM's from SubaruForester.org,and yes I answer them.
All that being said I HATE the new format over there,I still check it regularly but this is my new home.

I agree with all that has been said

1) Clubx is great for how tos and an encyclopedia of questions that have been asked
2) ClubX new layout is horrible, and the ads just overwhelm me
3) XN is more unique, fresh clean layout, and generally good discussion

CX is a pain to navigate and the ads are overwhelming. I asked a question about a transmission issue I've been having back in October after searching the forums and not finding a thread posting similar issue, but never got a single response. The layout here is much more user friendly and I like that I don't have to scroll past a half page of ads to get to the meat of a topic.

I wonder if Kelly threatened the mods not to join this site because I haven't seen xterra Mike over here and couple others.

Has anyone tried recruiting them over here or are they too"loyal" to CX and Kelly to do that?

Kelly hasn't done anything... He is a good guy.. Just loyal to that forum which is not a big deal.. Kelly is member here too..

They love that piece of the pie and more power to them.. Cx had 10 years of info that we will never contend with but we have the social side they do not...

Dont sell the site short Dave. Eventually we will have the info here. It just takes time for the write ups and members to join. We have a good thing going and its only gonna get better.

Oh I'm not... We are gaining new info almost everyday... I'm just happy that we were able to give the people a happy place to post up no matter what you are into

First and foremost, don't change the layout of this site haha! Or at least, not the extent CX changed. I used to get on CX, even after I started posting here after NXM, but the only posting I do on CX now is updating my build thread. I just really, really don't like that layout.. Maybe it's a personable thing haha. Anyway, I <3 XN and am glad to say it's my new home :sure:

The layout is here to stay.. It's taken 2 years to get it where I'm happy with it.. So no worries

Just found this thread...

I think this site works because it's the most active... at least there's several members posting actual mods... theres's still a bunch of big-heads and ass kissers on here, there always will be. Socializing is fine.. but when there's more bull**** than actual discussion about Xterras it becomes just a social club. People leave, sites change and they go to hell.. it's a natural cycle and it will happen here. No site is invincible....

Yes and I like the layout.. CX went to ****

just saying

You're seeing a whole team of psychiatrists aren't you? What in the wide world of sports are you babbling about son? I'm an admin on a forum, I enforce the rules and guidelines set forth by the sites owners. I have no control over anyone, certainly no minions "loyal" to me, and absolutely no axe to grind. You however do seem to have an axe to grind.

For the record I don't know TN4x4Xterra, never met him, and don't re-call ever posting in any thread he ever started in or posted in. I was asked by DRB to be an admin on CX and accepted the spot to fill time while on the road for my job. The way you paint it TN4x4 I'm the mob ring leader at CX in some sort of war I didn't even know was happening. Again if you're not seeing someone... seek professional help, mach schnell.

Thanks Dave.

Not a matter of love just I'm more of a straight technical forum user and already have another site to "hang out" at. :squW00shy:

Forums are just forums find one you like and enjoy it.
