I'd start with the heat shields. You engaged Submarine Mode in some thick muck recently, so something probably got knocked around. Just crawl under there and start hitting around until you find the sound, then either rip off the offending piece of metal or clamp the s out of it.

Yeah, I get a day off from work this weekend, so I'm going to slide under it and start poking and prodding. I'll make sure to bring cutters down with me!

A lot of people don't say this when dealing with heat shields so I will...

When you get down, look around for the heat shields (I believe there's four or five) and knock on it. It should have a very high tin sound to it, not a low hollow metal sound. When you find it, it won't look loose. In fact, it'll/should still look perfectly intact. However, the reason it's making that noise is because the welding was poorly done underneath all first gen Xs.

Anyways, once you find the high tin noise, look to see if the welding has gone bad and sort of narrow out the two pieces so they won't be colliding too much anymore.

Well, no go on heat shields. All fluids are fresh and good. Too all the belts off, spun pulleys. Nothing. I've looked at a couple videos on YouTube and I think its my timing belt. :/ uhhhhgg. Not gonna be fun. I can't afford for a shop to do it so looks like I'm tackling this myself. After I can even afford the dang kit. Fml everything always happens at the wrong times for me.

Here's a couple different videos with the noise. It's a little difficult to tell due to my exhaust system but you can hear the rattling noise through it.

I can't tell anything from that video but how many miles do you have on that belt?

Fixed the videos a little bit, they may help. According to carfax when I bought my truck at 128k Miles the timing belt was done @ 93K. My truck now sits at ~145k, give or take a couple hundred. Like I've mentioned before. Everything else runs as it should. No new CEL codes being thrown other than Knock Sensor and Evap. Changed all my fluids out, cleaned my MAF and intake system. It didn't seem to have any loss in power, either. No shutting/misfiring. A couple of my friends say it reminds them of a bearing going out. Maybe one of the pulley's in the timing belt assembly?

Nice! You doin' the little 90* hose as well?

All my houses were good except this one and the one that goes into the intake boot. Dry rotted. I'm gonna just buy a tool of the 1/2 I.d tubing for the intake one.

Shinyyyyy. Gonna just do the timing belt, too. Im stupid if I dont. Should have all that back together tomorrow. As for the noise, no clue still. Next possibility is lifters. That'll be fun...

Still waiting for my new harness and knock sensor to come in, too. Going to do the relocate and see if that helps performance any.

As always, I'll keep y'all updated on progress. Thanks for tuning in!
I'm going to go stare at my new tires now all night. They look massive compared to my current ones!

new tires and wheels are always nice. got any pictures of them on the truck? Hope you get the water pump working.

No, they won't be going on the X until I get it running. X is at mommy patents house where I have more room to work on it. Dad has a big tent out back to pull it in. The x won't fit in my garage, lol it's too tall. Water pump wasn't really busted, I don't know what's wrong with my truck. It runs and starts fine but makes a gobble awful noise. I'd rather find out before something blows up on it, though. That's why it's parked and we're going through it.I'm just replacing things as I see fit.

Is it a ticking or tapping? I know mine was doing that but it was just trash in the lifters. Ran some cleaner thru it and it cleared it right up. After that I ran some lucas thru it and kept the oil changes up every 3000 and used only synthetic.

I switched back to conventional. Synthetic made my seals all leak. I've already done sea foam through the gas tank and through the intake. Nothing changed. It's more of a tapping/rattling noise. It's rpm specific, only occurs around 2500-3000 range.

Try running the oil cleaner thru it. I got it at orileys and it was like $5. You need to do it when you change the oil as you only leave it in for 5 mins or so then drain and put in new oil. It's worth a shot for $5...lol

Well, right now the truck is all apart in my dad's backyard, haha. It doesn't run in it's current condition...period. I've decided to just do the damn timing belt so I ordered a new one with a tensioner off Rockauto. Has a lifetime warranty on it, too for like $40 bucks shipped. After I get the belt done and get it all sealed back up and put it back together, maybe I'll look into that if we end up sitting there scratching our heads still. If after all that doesn't work I might end up just paying the dealership $100 to figure it out for me so I can stop just dumping parts into it.

Welp, I got my truck all back together....

Started it up and sure enough, the obnoxious noise is still there. FML.

I don't know what to do, it's really got me in a frustrated slump. I have a feeling I'm going to have to goto the stealership on this...-sigh-

Well, Decided I'm going to re-do my ball joints and get an alignment/put on my new wheels and tires. After those are done. I'm taking it to Nissan and letting them go through it. I need to just get this issue fixed. My dad's been having some health problems on top of his older sister having her 4th heart attack and going into the hospital. He doesn't have the time or energy right now to help me dig through and find the issue and I really don't want to ask him anymore and strain him out about this. I really don't have the free time either, since my company is going to be getting started a little earlier than expected. My business partner's current employer caught wind of him planning his two weeks and is now just out to get rid of him (Douche Move). Just alot of stress on everyone right now. Bllleeeeehhhhh.

Tires and stance look great. New black tires, quickly go get them muddy. BTW if I had that much tire sticking out from the fenders it would be highly illegal here. Cops tend to pull you over. They are no checking that guys are using their front sway bars on a IFS or SAS rig. My truck was kind of like that at one point and I can tell you the mud spraying up the sides will get your truck dirty VERY quickly, its awesome.

No laws about it here. The offset on my wheels is a joke compared to some of the rigs running the streets here. There's a few trucks who have the entire wheel outside of the fender. Nobody says anything on sway bars either. Road regulations/lift laws/emissions here are either non-existent or verry VERYYY lax. Cops don't seem to bother you unless you're clearly speeding like 20-30MPH above the limit or if you're shooting someone/robbing someone's crap. It has it's ups and downs...like it for stuff like this but it does scare me a little bit in the ways of if something were to actually happen that endangered lives...how sluggish LEO's would be to react to it.
