Well, alas my first "real" issue with my truck since purchasing it. Been driving it a little more lately and noticed it shuddering some. Come to find out I think I have a misfire. Honestly and easy fix, I just can't believe it took me this long to figure out that's what was causing the issue. Plan to order new NGK wires and NGK Laser iridium plugs from Rock Auto maybe this weekend and get it fixed. As well, I want to change to fluid in the trans and the rear diff and maybe extend the breather tube. FUN FUN!
Alright, well I got my Exhaust installed, I love it, nice deep tone. The guys at the shop thought my X was awesome too, not to mention I had the coolest GF ever for buying it for me. They noticed my love of bedliner and even popped on some bedlined tips!

1. Where do you live in FL? I saw the plates and I'm curious because I lived in southeast FL for 17 years.
2. What brand and style/model number is your brush guard? I know fellow X's nickname them DMs (damage multipliers!) but I currently have a 2wd with just a few minor mods with plans on upgrading to a 4wd that I will mod like crazy so no major trails for me right now and I like the way a brush guard looks.
Anyway, your X looks great and nice job on posting pics with the mods

I have no idea what the brush guard is. I got it as a gift from my parents last year. I took it off currently because I wouldn't line up with my BL I need to fix it somehow or see about just going without it and getting a bumper made.

Dude, I went to college at UF! 1998-2002. I lived in Palm Beach Gardens the rest of the time after moving from England when I was 11 and moved to Phoenix in '08 while I was travel nursing.

Alright, So I'm at a stand still with this damn thing. She's being stubborn as hell. I replaced the fuel filter, didn't do squat. I then cleaned and re-charged my K&N, which didn't help as well my MAF sensor. Cleaning the MAF sensor seemed to help slightly, however my truck still hesitates and gurgles slightly while driving. Maybe I just didn't clean it enough? I have no CEL light on. I did bring it to Advanced Auto the other day and the lady scanned it. It threw the knock sensor but, I don't have a supercharger so shouldn't that not be a huge deal? I have no plugs and wires in my kitchen ready to go. If those don't come through for me it looks like I'll be setting my eye upon the dizzy? I'll try spraying out the MAF sensor again tonight, possibly I just didn't hit the sensor good enough with it being in the other small housing inside of the cylinder.

Thanks, Steve. This weekend I got around to installing this stuff...
She runs much better, no spudders or hesitations now. I think 2 of my plugs were shot big time. The #6 plug even wasn't as bad as I thought took me about 15 minutes to get it out and the new one in. I had more issues with #4 because of the dirt caked around in down inside. Happy to have her back with some pep in her step, now. I went from 0.41 gap to 0.39 so maybe that'll help with some fuel useage too. Gonna swap the tranny fluid out and throw some fuel injector cleaner in next time I fill up.

nice, when I put in my NGK wires I had to take the hood off in order to get the sixth wire. actually I ran my X with only the first five swapped in for a while until I had will power to tackle it again.

I was almost debating that for a while too, Jim except my OCD would of kicked the snot out of me. I took the wire off first, Steve. The BL helped me get my hand down there some but I actually torn the snot out of my arm, I refuse to do things totally blind so I shoved my arm enough to touch the top of the plug and guide the socket down onto it. After that I got it off, blew the dirt out of the hole and got the new one in fairly easily. The #4 plug stumped me for longer just because I had a blonde moment and forgot to blow air down there, hence why the socket wouldn't connect haha. But man, those plugs made a world of difference trucks runs so much better, couldn't be happier right now!

I only changed mine because they had double the amount of Ohms per foot of wire on half of them. I take it that is why most people change them out and also blue wires makes it a race car motor lol. im surprised that at the time, the motor didn't throw a soft or hard code for the slight amount of retardation in the spark for #6.

Thanks man! I love the flip hitch. It gets some many bewildered looks and comments too asking why it's flipped. I really hope it rains soon now so I can hit this spot up with some mud pics. Last rain was like 3 weeks ago and it barley rained. FL is in such a drought right now =/

Drought is better in some ways, however my occupation of lawn service depends on rain. No rain, grass doesn't grow to cut and treat. Can't spray chemicals on a dry lawn unless you want it to turn bright orange and fry everything. Also, I have no mud holes to romp through!
Well, I've been getting tired of this stupid spudder. After all the stuff I've done, Plugs, wires, cap and rotor, cleaning the MAF sensor and recharging the K&N and swapping the fuel filter, my trucks stills runs bad kind of. Not anywhere like it did but still bugs me. However I think I found a shop that I will use forever! I called and told them everything and told them I need a more in depth diagnostics test than the Autozone scanners, all they picked up was knock sensor, right there his words I quote from the shop owner were "The knock sensor in those Xterra's is total crap, ain't worth nothin', and a royal pain in the ass to fix to boot! I guarantee that ain't the problem." AWESOME! Found someone who knows a little about these things locally and isn't trying to convince me that's it just because of a code it's been throwing since day 1! Drop my truck off to him tomorrow morning to run tests on it. Hope to get some results!
Well, the guy at the shop was wrong....totally. -Sigh-, I had such high hopes. Turns out I still have to take my X to a dealer to track down the misfire. In the meantime, I also found the other noise it was making (Thought to be an idler Pulley). It's my alternator going out. Pulled all the belts off one by one starting the X in between to see if the noise still persisted, sure enough, last belt off, the good ol' alty! Time to bring it to Autozone and get a new one...

Get the quest alternator. Fits in the same spot, added 45 amps. Just make sure you get a ground screw for it. I feel like I am a major advocate for this mod because I did it and now I can run my sub at full power, have all my lights on and I never see them dim. If you are going to replace it.. Why not add moar power

I pulled mine from a guy parting his Quest out on CL. Check junkyards, CL and what not. The alt is found on the 99-04 quest

The Quest swap is a worthy endeavour. Be extra sure to grind off the appropriate spots. It's also a real booger to get in there. SO basically don't think you can do it in an hour before your girlfriend comes over. If you do that you will spend four hours on it and you will not have a happy girlfriend. That's bad.

Thank you sir, I wound up just getting a regular alternator for the time being. I went ahead and bought all new belts while I was at it to and I'll have the old ones for spares.
Hah, well good thing I live with my GF. So it makes it alot easier to time things =P
But it's so much fun!
All in all guys, I'm at a stand still here. The way it's going, I think my dizzy is shot. I've replaced and tuned all this stuff and it still misses and shutters going down the road. I see you can buy a complete dizzy off RockAuto for like 120 Bucks, any reviews on it? How much of a PITA is it to change?
Well, this week I'm going to break down and bring the X to the Stealership, however only for them to scan it thoroughly and tell me what's wrong that way I can take it home and rip it apart, whatever it may be. The sputtering has been very inconsistent the past couple weeks, one day driving fine and the next @ 3k Rpm's it sounds like it's having a heart attack. Just baffled and I'm not going to chase parts around even know I would love to just replace everything to get it all on my maintenance schedule. I could of gotten a lemon spark plug, could be tps sensor or dizzy may be shot. I put a multi-meter on my MAF and that's operating like a champ. Changed my alternator out and put all new belts on, too. I just want it running normal so I can continue with the fun mods!

Sounds like the dizzy to me. I wqs having a similar issue about 2 years ago and it was the dizzy.

Well, I just hope they find something. Pearson Nissan of Ocala is charging me $95 Bucks just to go through my X!! That is pretty outrageous imo, just so they can tell me I have a bad dizzy or tps sensor or something. I swear they better not tell me I need to replace the knock sensor after all this or I'm going to be pissed...
They can preach that to me all dayyyyy, not gonna happen. I'm placing my bets on Bad dizzy or tps sensor. Unless I happened to get a bad plug from rock auto....
All the cool kids use 'emDizzy? That is old school. I haven't seen one of those since 2004.
I can tell you it beats removing the intake to get to the coil packs on 2-4-6 for sure.
