Unknown engine noise

2007 4x4 with 84k
Timing chain, tensioners replaced at 60k
Rather obvious rattling sound coming from what sounds like front of engine- Sounds like a bunch of pieces of something rattling around. No CLE and runs/drives perfect.

Any ideas?

Do you still have all the straps holding on the heat shields for the exhaust? Those like to rust out and fall off, and then the shields rattle against things

Yes they are still intact- Rust free west coast vehicle

No- Runs and idles great just produces what sounds like rocks clanking around under the hood

Mine did something similar.. when they Installed new Radiator.. the Lower fan Housing Housing. Came loose, with tip touching the edge of the Fan. creating a rattle... After, hunting it down.. yanked it out... No issues since..

not sure if your issue is same.. But gives yea something else to look for..

Check your fan clutch and idler as well. Could be bad bearings in those.

Odd- Scheduled an appointment with mechanic for later in the week and now the noise is gone- Will take it on a long drive tomorrow and see if it returns.
