Trouble with Rear Bumper Bolts

I got my Shrockworks rear bumper just before the holidays. I'm trying to get the install done today, but i can't get the stock rear bumper bolts to break loose. I just sprayed them with PB Blaster, tried an impact gun, but I'm not having any luck.

What other tricks do you have?

I was able to do mine with a cheater bar (piece of pipe that fit over my ratchet) - put all of your weight on it (seriously, just sit on the thing) and see if that does anything - the longer the pipe the better. You can peel back the plastic bumper caps to access the frame rail; you can see if spraying them from that end helps any.

Also, try torquing forward as well (just a tad) with a solid wrench (or lock your ratchet). Forwad, back, forward, back until it loosens up.

I used a 1/2" drive breaker bar and socket instead of a ratchet to keep from damaging my ratchet. For most of the bolts I was able to lie under the truck and kick the breaker to break em loose, but for two of them I used a floor jack under the end of the breaker bar.

I found my breaker bar - that did the trick. Those bastards were on there tight. Thanks for the reinforcement guys - I thought I was missing something.

Glad to help. It's easy to forget about a breaker bar when you don't use it often. It took me nearly an hour just to find one whenever I was removing bolts.

Insanely tight. Don't know what the torque specs are, but I had less than a 1000 miles on each of my Xterras when I was pulling those bolts, (for the receiver hitch on the first X and the Maxterra bumper on the new one).

These rear bumper bolts are crazy tight. I had 5k miles on mine and it felt like I went to the gym after I was done and I hate the gym. 2 out of the 6 of mine did not go back in any easyier. I know one thing for sure no one is going to steal my rear bumper.

The torque specs on them are not that tight, it is the rust weld, or in my case red locktight that keeps them on.

Around here Anti seize if you want to be able to take it appart again, and lock tight if you dont. Blue for things like cap screws on hubs and red for larger members like crossmembers, and skid plates. sliders ect.

but if you can pick up a 1/2 inch breaker bar that is intended to have a cheater bar on it there is no better weapon to have in the tool box. I have two, one with its own handle, and one that is just a smooth rod, that slides into another pipe. The handle to a bottle jack works suprisingly well.

I use a ceiling fan pole 12" that came with a fan I bought.. I needed a longer pole for my living room and this one went to the tool box..
I used to have part of a shock i used to use.. Just be careful if your using a normal ratchet.. You can kill them pretty quick ;)

Breaker bar is a must.. My current snap on bar came from a road find.. I find tool on the road like crazy
