I've been all around the state today - looking for parts for a friend, enjoying the weather, and also working with the X.
Being around people now that the weather is nice has made me realize a few things, just from today alone.
1. People in general have seemingly become increasingly arrogant, selfish, and all-around obnoxious. From texting while driving to yelling what one thinks out a window to another, I've just witness a lot today. No, friend, I don't want your opinion on what kind of vehicle I drive (this stemmed from an older, trashy fella yelling "Get a Ford" from his Dodge pickup). Why has it become commonplace to shove one's opinion down another's throat? Come on. If I wanted your opinion on my mode of transportation, I would have said "Excuse me, trash heap. I'm shopping for a new vehicle and your ponytail and Confederate flag tell me you have great taste. I was hoping to get your opinion."
2. Motorcycles. I know a lot of you here ride, so I'm going to tread lightly with this one and be gentle with my words, but please understand that this is solely based on my experience. I do not believe in "Motorcycle Awareness Month." I believe in being aware of your surroundings 24/7. This has caused a general sense of arrogance and self-entitledness amongst the common rider (talking to YOU, guy who rides the line divider and gets mad at ME for driving too close). Eff off and ride in the middle of the lane like a normal, considerate human being. And if you want to "share the road," stop weaving in and out of traffic, regardless of whether or not it's legal. If you want me to be aware of you, be aware of me. Respect, like most things in life, is a two-way street. Especially on two-way streets
3. Food is terrible. I'm eating lunch from a local Mexican restaurant and it's legit Mexican food & recipes. They're going out of business because there's a friggin' Taco Bell right around the block. It's a family-owned & operated business. That just makes me sad. They even have imported Coke from Mexico, with real sugar. Mmmmmm. Bottled sodas.
4. I find it interesting / hilarious that more and more people feel the need to display their beliefs and thoughts, either by ridiculous bumper stickers or with the astounding influx of horrible tattoos I've seen lately. And it's so easy to get anything you want. Hell, we can email Creepy with literally anything and plaster it wherever we please. But this is 'Merica, so get your Freedom of Speech on. If you must. I still don't want Ted Nugent for president, nor did I ask you who you'd elect if given the choice. And you wonder why most of the other countries think this is the wild west.
5. The general attitude of the populous is just so poor. Cutting people off in traffic, getting mad when people take too much time to make traffic maneuvers. Sure, I've probably done my fair share of traffic buttheadery, but you there, in the Camaro. I get it - your car is loud and you are the youngest child in your family, so you need the attention, be it positive or negative. But please, go read a book and let the rest of us enjoy our day.
In posting this on our beloved XN forums, I wanted to say thank you to all the members here. It's good to know that people are looking out for each other, and a small, close-knit community has really come through on these pages. Even if it's something simple like paying it forward or helping someone out with a seemingly stupid question, just keep that up. There are fewer and fewer selfless, helpful, and genuinely nice people left on this stupid planet, so thank you for being some of those folks.
And finally, be patient. Slow down. Life isn't all that bad. Stop being a douche and lower your damn heart rate; maybe you'll live another few years.
Man, I feel better.
