Can someone please explain what this net neutrality shiat means?
OK. Here's the skinny.

Right now internet providers have to treat the internet like your power. They provide it to your house, and have zero say in what you do with it or how fast you can access certain services.

A good analogy is you pay for power to come to your house. The power company doesn't care if you run a welder or a deep freezer, right? It's your power to use as you see fit as long as you pay for it.

So with Net Neutrality removed, now the power company will charge you one price to power your house. If you want to run a deep freezer, guess what, your kw/h price goes up. Welder? That's another up charge.

Now take that over to the internet. With the laws in place right now the providers can do nothing to control what sites you go to, content you stream, how you use the internet in any way. They also can't offer content providers an option to pay for faster delivery of their content. Essentially playing favorites for money.

If the laws get removed, here's what's going to happen. Sites like this, TNX, etc will get lumped in with "automotive web content" you'll have to pay your provider and extra fee in order to access them. Want to watch Netflix? Hulu? You have to pay for the "streaming package." another upcharge. If you live in a red state, providers could be lobbied to block porn websites because it's "offensive" to peoples delicate sensibilities. Sites that host torrents or other content that is deemed illegal by the US government could be blocked altogether. And that includes VPNs because they can be used to bypass content blocking.

Why would the providers do this? Because money. They're losing revenue with people turning off cable. So they're going to try and monetize the internet into packages the way that they used to do with cable channels. So they can keep their revenue model going.

I know we're not allowed to talk about political shiat here. But I'm making an exception for this. This isn't a red or blue issue. This will affect everybody. And the only people that will benefit are the telecom companies. Every person in this country needs to be blowing up thier Senators, representatives, & the FCC with phone calls. Congress is the only body that can stop this from happening. If the FCC gets to vote on it, thier 5 person panel composed of former telecom executives and lawyers will vote to pull the laws. They've already rolled back part of the laws put in place earlier this year. This is the last bastion of hope for preserving the internet as we know it.

So basically they will govern the internet like a communist country and provide services that they deem "ok" for the general public. If you want any additional services your going to have to poney up or do without. This will have a big effect of business that deal in only e-commerce just for the simple fact that they don't have a brick and mortar location. If this would get pushed through it will indirectly cost people jobs and change the lives of many Americans. I know my kids in addition to their regular homework they also have online assignments they have to complete also. This will essentially force parents to have to pay higher rates. A lot of the assignments they do involves streaming video content and answering questions that the video covered. The bad thing is there is not a lot of information out there that I have seen or heard to let the general public know this is going to happen so they won't face the wrath of their customers until it's to late.

That's exactly correct. Not enough people know about it. And the news media isn't really talking about it either. And the FCC is doing the vote now because they're hoping that it'll get overlooked because of the holidays. ufck those people. Again. Call your Reps. Annoy the shiat out of them. This can't be allowed to happen.

Fricken done till Sunday night. I have one more day before the kids and wife start whining about wanting to put the Christmas tree up, also putting decorations everywhere for the boy to break.

Yes it is. I've already spoken to both of our senators and they are pushing to cancel the vote. So call whoever your house rep is and the FCC.
Our district representative quite earlier this month, he got tired of the bs that is going on.

I found a bandaid for my problem of mother ufckers bothering me on my lunch break:

Take break at a different time every day.

So far, it's working. They're a wiley bunch though, I'm sure it won't be long before they get wise.

I'm having mini blinds installed on the office window, so soon they won't be able to look across the shop to see if I'm in here. They're mostly too lazy to walk over if they don't already know I'm in here, so that should help a bunch, too.

When you're on a conference call, mute your damn phone. Just had an hour call and the last 15 minutes we had to power through some jack having a conversation in his office that was not supposed to be heard on our end. Call actually ended early because of it.
