If we are talking about something to condition the water on water change days then what you want is Seachem Prime. It's a dechlorinator. Depending on your water you may also need something for ph or gh to raise or lower them. If you want, bring in a water sample to your local fish store (not big box places) and have them test it. They can tell you exactly what you'll need.

Cons are money. To replace with a comparable board, cpu, and memory I have now is stupid expensive. I can go to 12gb ddr3 10600 and an i7 980x (6 core 3.3Ghz) for $200. Then it's just a video card and I'm still set for current gen games (and VR).
